Mogadishu unfortunately is one of the biggest shit holes in all of Somalia but also has amenities you won't find else where yet. To be honest I think in terms of living standards as a whole other cities will improve faster than Xamar.

Xamar is highly overrated.

Somali population estimate 12 million
Muqdisho metropolitan area 3.5 million, 30% of the nations overall population.

Regardless of whether or not one has a sense of affiliation to Xamar, it was, is and will always remain the economic, strategic, bureaucratic and multicultural epicenter of the country.

If a person is in Somalia and with means, Muqdishos economic bustle would draw them.
In need of quality healthcare, Muqdishos facilities would draw them.
In need of diplomatic services, the missions are in Muqdisho.
Campaigning for national office, the marginal urban majority is in Muqdisho.

The list would go one...

Embrace it or reject it, Muqdisho is the capital city. Muqdisho is Somalia.

The purpose of this thread is to give the doubters & naysayers who have been consistently degrading & giving all sorts of mischievous labels to Mogadishu & it's people, a room to vent out their frustrations. The true motivation is jealousy & envy. They can't can't fathom how a city that has been a battleground for 23 long years is within the span of 2 years fundamentally transforming itself as one of the fastest growing urban centers in all of Africa with some of Africa's most valued properties. They look at the massive investments by foreign nations & companies in Mogadishu & it drives them to a point of instant depression.

Truth is these envious idiots were the same groups that used to label president Sh Sharif's 2009 historic trip to Turkey as "Sh Dalxiis" are bothered by Turkey's ensuing investments in Mogadishu where they are building some of Africa's best health facilities & infrastructures. It's not a topic motivated by any serious discussion b/c had it been one, the plights if disadvantaged peoples in the Jubba Valley like the Baajun would have been mentioned.

Forum movers from Mogadishu should enjoy the nervous breakdowns of these hateful bunch & bombard them with any & every images of Mogadishu's rapid developments so that they die of jealousy, envy & hatred. The sooner, the better!

I have previously asked for a source from another poster who put it a 3.5 million but it was to no avail.
So i have done my own research.
According to this report undp estimated mogadishu's population at 900,000 in 2005 (ngos tend to inflate to secure more money). The FG claims 2.5 million (somalis love to exagerate numbers). I have a hard time believing undp claims in 2005 becuase in 2007 war the population displaced alone numbered at 400,000. The FG figure looks like an overestimated to be fair. Id put the city's population at no more than 1,5m as a challenge and like someone to refute this refute this figure with a cencus.

Hassan said the population in Mogadishu may be close to 3 million people, twice the estimate from July 2011.

These are hassan sheikhs claims (and it is only a "may be"), what is he basing his numbers on? One source that i have read claimed the 1million returnees was a overestimate.
What mogadishu needs is a census. I wouldnt jump on any figure yet until there is planned and organised research conducted on Mogadishu population.

^ That and keeping in mind that the "populace" of Muqdisho, refers to those residing in the immediates of the city and surrounding urban centers. Call it greater Muqdisho if you would because it's all interwoven. Afgooye is a 15 minute drives, more or less an extension of the city.

This is Greater Muqdisho

Discrediting and denouncing the only metropolitan center of a nation recovering from the brink of destitution, solely for the demographic make up of it's inhabitants. Envy? Irrational anger? Pathetic and sadistic.

Do you accept Faroole's 3.9 million claim of Puntland?

Or are you just bothered about Banaadir's 2.5-3 million?

Those who envy Xamar, shame on you
A city that has been in constant destruction for more than two decades and is turning the tides around in less than 3 years and the progress it has made, and the envyness coming out from certain people it's quite sickening in a way.

Yes i also reject the 3.9 million number that is attributed to puntland which i believe is even more bogus, and similarly the figures attributed to several other towns and cities all over somalia. No double standards here.
