Somalis around the World.

Postby Tuushi » Sun Mar 23, 2014 12:08 pm

Arabman`s wiki link of Somalis in another thread seemed very interesting.

It lists where Somalis are mostly concentrated.According to the info there,Canada with total general population of like 10 percent of the USA,apparently has more Somalis.Made no sense to me.

Although i have never been to Ethiopia,it supposedly has the highest number of Somalis outside of Somalia.Almost quadruple the number in Kenya.Which i always believed had very high number.

Let's put that to test; go to Somaliland's page and change every Somaliland word to IctiraafRaadisland.

If you consider Somaliland to be a separate country from Somalia, then technically the most Somali country by population is actually Ethiopia.

An interesting thing to ponder about is what it means to be Somali. Many of the Somali people in Ethiopia are mixed, and as you go further west things get very fuzzy. There are many whole Somali tribes that saddle both non-Somali and Somali identities. They might exclusively (or prefer to) speak Afaan Oromoo and have given up the nomadic lifestyle for farming in mixed societies, yet still know their clan name. If it means being Muslim, you'll find many Christian Somalis there as well. The straightforward identity of who's Somali in Somalia isn't so clear in Ethiopia. Demographic trends in the horn point to things only getting more muddier.
