On 26 June 1960, Somalia was under Italian Colonialism, so I dont know why they are celebrating, they were independent on July 1st 1960.

Nope Italian colonialism ended in 1950. On 26 June 1960 South Somalia was under UN trusteeship different thing. But 26 June is celebrated because it is when Northern Somalia gained its independence from Britain which is a important day for all of Somalia.

P.s. why you complaining I thought you weren't a secessionist?

Ximan, there was No 'Northern' Somalia, the Etymological roots of the word Somalia lies in the Italian language. Somaliland was never ruled by Italy, and the name it bore between June 26 until July the 1st was Somaliland, you have to recognise facts, facts are facts.

Whats there to celebrate? Over 50% of the population of Xamar lives in Camps where the average person struggles to get more than 1 meal a day.

More money should be spent on helping them rather than constant celebrations. Obviously 26 june is a bit more important but every other day is a celebration in Somalia. Maalinta Dummarka, Maalinta Shaqaalaha, Maalinta aids-ka, Maalinta jaceylka, Maalinta hordada etc

No the last letter A is a latin suffix. It is common in most countries.

Also yes there is such a thing called Northern Somalia. Somaliland was also known as Somalia during colonisation in the latin language which was the dominant global language. Whilst in English it was British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland.

Facts is fact dear.

Anyways don't you get bored of these debates? Just move on and let people celebrate. Don't forget Somaliland didn't get their freedom by themselves they had the help of their southern brothers (SYL). So we can celebrate as much as we want.

Most IDP's in Mogadishu are from other parts of Somalia. But yes, too much celebration is not good. But independence day is important, in order to remember the struggle's our forefathers went through.

Dumb idiot who do you think you can fool? In latin world during colonisation Somaliland was called Somalia Briticania whilst the South was called Somalia Italiana. Whilst in the English world it was called British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland.

Also SYL took big part for the independence of Northern Somalia, stop trying to rewrite history doqonyahay.

Mogadishu should be concern about feeding its 2 million starving residents, ending the thousands of wars in every corner, all the homeless people in every camp from Dadab to Badbaado inside Mogadishu.

They wasting their time dwelling on things that happened some 54 years ago. Very irrelevant guys. Wanlawein are very irrelevant beggars.

Yes we are facing many obstacles, but so are Somaliland.

At least we celebrating a honourable day our forefathers defeated Christian crusaders/colonisers whilst you guys are busy celebrating a stupid cuqdad infested day (18 may). It's a shame that Somalilanders are more concerned with 18 May and not with 26 June, it shows how much hate they have but how forgiving they are too gaalo.

Nasabnimo waa loo dashaa, shame Somalilanders have no ounce of nasabnimo in them.

Not really Ximan.

You guys are just beggars. Should focus on the things that matter the most. You guys are like an Egyptian saying he is going to celebrate the irrelevant independence day of Lebanon :)

Talk about dameeri dhaan racday.

Hawlahiina ka shaqeysta ninyahow. No one cares if you going to decorate a donkey in Xamar in the UN-Trusteeship flag and gonna mark June 26, September 11th....
