The aspirations of our people had nothing to do with Siyaad Barre. If you knew anything about Somali history you would know that the aspirations for a separate Somaliland started right after the illegal unification process and in 1961 (8 years before Siyaad Barre came to power) there was an attempted coup in which young military officers tried to reclaim the sovereignty of our country.

Because british somaliland and italian somaliland actually had say, my brothers in djibouti were still under french occupation, my brothers in western somalia were under habash occupation, and my brothers in NFD were still under the british they still were under control.
