Thousands of Somalis accross the world celebrate for October revolutionary Day. The Oktober 21,1969 bloodless revolution led by Mohamed Siad Barre ultimately setting the stage for the creation of the modern Republic of Somalia. This day is also known as Oktober Revolution Day.
The revolution aimed at ending backwardness and clan system that flourished in Somalia in colonial times, in addition to its objectives characterized by clear perspective and deep awareness, and determining with precision and objectivity the features of the radical changes in Somali’s reality in all aspects of life, socially, economically, developmentally, militarily and politically.
A new experience started in Somalia, based on nationhood. Revolutionary members oversaw the building of hospitals, schools and universities and handled humanitarian emergencies effectively in the 1970’s and much in the 1980’s.
Somalia plunged into civil-war in January 1991.
Even thought much praised, the Revolution Day not yet a public holiday in Somalia.
