U know i have recently watched the movie version of 'An ideal husband' by Oscar wilde played by Ruppet.I thought it so funny! This is the first time i am introduced to the WIT of Wilde! I am so fascinated with the wits that jumped off the screne that i went & googled his brief Bio! How tragic i read.But what strike me most about the brief Bio was-- his last days.When he was inprisoned & he saw small children being prisoned too for some juvenile offence.The dude was so irrate about this that--he paid money for their release despite the fact that he had little & all his suppose high calibre friends deserted him.This condemned man appeared to have a 'heart' to care for the children.He later wrote a condeming article about the systems failure & the inhuman condition of how the children were mistreated.This man man may have had a bad vice in his hands but --right there in that small little act-- i sort of grown'.... ...to like him.


Also his WIT are amazing.My goodness....i have made a point to read all his play.Got any to recommend?? I know someone here recommended me the picture of Dorian Gray--forget who actually---but have u any favorites?I can see you liking Wilde---both of ya have that sweet, humanity temprament of a heart.

Ahh, yes. The wit. I've yet to read ANYone with the remarkable wit and intellect of Wilde. And that includes Shakespeare and all the rest. Wilde was unrivalled in that department. And the fact that the movies are unable to quite capture the full extent is amazing in itself. But for more of his works, his great plays were "The Importance of Being Earnest," (also a movie, and his best, IMO) "Lady Windermere's Fan," "A Woman of No Importance," "Salome'," The Duchess of Padua," and "A Florentine Tradgedy." And those were just his plays. Among his short stories are "Dorian Gray," "Lord Arthur Savile's Crime," "The Star Child," "The Fisherman and his Soul," and many others too numerous to list. But "The Importance of Being Earnest" is truly great, and would be the one i'd recommend first. And thank you for the compliment, Basra, i'm flattered.
