Are you pursuing your dream job?

Postby KnowThySelf23 » Sat Jan 10, 2015 11:00 am

Ive noticed that most somali people tend to go for 9-5 jobs and go for careers that are rather secure, instead of what they really want. it seems to me that almost everyone is a doctor, lawyer (rarely in the west), accountant, teacher, engineer etc. i mean its great that somali people that grew up in this world are doing so well for themselves and are (for the most part) all becoming intellectuals and going of promising careers....but what about creativity? what about arts? music? film? clothing designers? ....im not even going to say model since after iman almost every halimo (and the occasional farax) goes for it. why aren't there more somalis who are news reporters, artists, musicians, actors, designers, dancers, radio personalities, internet personalities, hosts etc.....

So i ask you.......are you doing your dream job? is this what you've always wanted? do you wake up every morning excited to go into work?

Arts? Really? Unfortunately, pursuing what you love will not always pay off. A person who obtains a degree in arts is less likely to make a good living than say a person who is a doctor. Regardless of what you choose to pursue, you'll have to sacrifice something unless you can somehow make a good living by doing what you enjoy which majority of people in the world do not know how to do. As long as you are not miserable and as long as you do not detest your job, then it's better to go for security than anything else. Like I said, very few people know how to make money by doing what they enjoy.

I have been running my own business for almost 3 years now.

Let me tell you that it is way more stressful than working a 9-5 job. Most people would not be able to handle it.

Doonfaar? :damn:

Seriously though, markaan qaxootiga cusub ahaa toban sano ka hor oo aan warshad in muddo ah ka shaqeeyay, lacagta markaasey barako laheyd and now that I get a lot more than what I used to get back then it just disappears as quickly as it touches the account. :x I think it's to do with the lifestyle (when you're new you hardly use anything + plus you don't have all the useless, unnecessary stuff you pay for now) as well as Africa's never ending need.
