lol maxaa dhacay?
Do you really want to know

My thinking process

Why I am responding to this thread? Is my post to show to off? Why did I spend so much time writing it? I am sharing to much? Are people going to quote me and responds? Will I have to respond? Do I want to respond not really? KnowThySelf23 comments are extreme and she is confrontational. She once asked for my death. I don't care if she does it again but why i am giving her my attention? I am really that lonely that I have to respond to her threads? Then other members who contributing to this thread and crawling up in this thread that surrounding my post. What if more come? Why I am back on snet again?

Yeah . Edited :|

Companies generally like to screw their employees, even when you are not making minimum wage. They just want as much profit and shareholder value as possible. Your pay does not equal one's contribution.

ofcourse, working for someone your pay won't equal your contribution, but I would rather contribute £200 an hour and earn just 10% of that than contribute £20 an hour and earn 70% of that, so in the grand scheme of things what you contribute doesnt matter to you

Ive noticed that most somali people tend to go for 9-5 jobs and go for careers that are rather secure, instead of what they really want. it seems to me that almost everyone is a doctor, lawyer (rarely in the west), accountant, teacher, engineer etc. i mean its great that somali people that grew up in this world are doing so well for themselves and are (for the most part) all becoming intellectuals and going of promising careers....but what about creativity? what about arts? music? film? clothing designers? ....im not even going to say model since after iman almost every halimo (and the occasional farax) goes for it. why aren't there more somalis who are news reporters, artists, musicians, actors, designers, dancers, radio personalities, internet personalities, hosts etc.....

So i ask you.......are you doing your dream job? is this what you've always wanted? do you wake up every morning excited to go into work?

I'm weird I guess. My dream job is to become a merchant mariner, and land a position as a ordinary seaman. (OB/AB).Progress rank from there.

In a nutshell the career entails hauling cargo from point A to B,to shipment ports across the world.

Just have to get my credentials,MMC credential from the US coast guard & you have to apply to the TSA to receive your TWIC CARD.Once that is complete you take a safety course, join a union and you're ready to sail!!! :stylin:

It's actually half of the reason I'm moving to Alaska in the near future.

^ Is it like a childhood fantasy of yours? I mean, does life on the high seas fascinate you or it's a well-paying job + traveling to many ports and cities in the world is the main appeal?

Not really,I sort of stumbled into a similar lifestyle working seasonal gigs in Alaska for 2 years. Both Land/Sea catcher processors.

I LOVE the feeling of being on the water (hard to explain),it just gives me a sense of belonging and accomplishment if that makes sense.

The money is pretty good, I know a couple of OB seaman, starting pay is $170-190 a day. They don't seem to complain about much.

Not all companies operate on that wavelength. If you are exceptional at what you do (not just working enough avoid being let go), and feel you are not being acknowledged for it, others will take notice - perhaps in another organization. Or you could consider an entrepreneurial route.

Back in Jan 2002 I traveled from Dubai port to Umm Qasr in Iraq on a ferry so I can understand what you mean when describing the feeling of being on water.

I am not sure if I can say I feel a sense of belonging but life on the icy world of antarctic was captivating to me for years after I read a novel (can't remember the title) about a group of seamen that got stranded at sea after their ship got stuck in the ice and they had to survive by eating sea-lions etc when they ran out of food. It was a story of hardship and struggle but something about it was fascinating.

I definitely didn't grow up wanting to be a freight forwarder and in logistics, but now I can't see myself anywhere else. So yes, alhamdulillah, I am at my dream job.

being happy is not going to pay your bills and not everyone has the means to get the education they want but doing something you hate is not a nice life
