Cheap oil affecting Venezuela

Postby FAH1223 » Thu Jan 15, 2015 10:48 am

A former participant at a program my job does emailed this to one of my colleagues:
“Well, unfortunately there's little anybody could do. The main problem is that local production of goods is basically zero, and everything (from diapers and deodorant to chicken and milk) is imported. With the steep decline in oil prices, the gov't ran out of money to import. So, when goods actually get to stores, we have to stand in line for hours and hours to buy few, regulated items: you can't but more than one deodorant per month, for example. Every visit to the supermarket is purgatory for us.”

The government has stated that there are food shortages because “people are eating too much.”
:wow:

Cheap oil is affecting some of the countries which the United States hates the most; Russia, Iran, Venezuela. It's already having an ugly affect on all of these countries, and it's projected that oil will be cheap for the foreseeable future.

Either way, Fuck Venezuela and their Socialist government. Maybe now they can actually open up their economy and introduce some free-market economic policies which will benefit the people. Because for the last 2 decades or so, Venezuela was completely Socialist and the people were being fed by the Government instead of being given the opportunity to develop their skills in the global marketplace.

That has nothing to do with it. I'm just questioning your logic and intelligence. I've seen some of your posts on this forum and you don't strike me as the brightest bulb in the room---I'm just saying saaxib.

You have absolutely no understanding of economics. Look at the economic freedom rankings, and Venezuela has one of the "least-free" economies in the world, right up there with Eritrea and Zimbabwe. But you wouldn't understand such a thing....

You don't know shit about economics. I even studied economics in university and if you actually think that Venezuela's Government had good economic policies over the last 15 years, then you should do yourself a favor and burn your degree.

Your socialist bullshit won't get you anywhere kid. It's been tried in many countries (Tanzania, East Germany, pre-1991 India, Ukraine) and it's been a disaster each and every time. But you wouldn't know that, because you swallow the bullshit that's been told to you by MSNBC and your Leftist colleagues.

Even countries like Egypt and Syria suffered greatly under socialist policies, yet this neo-Marxist Atheist troll known as "X.Playa" wants to repeat these same failed policies which have been proven to reduce the standard of living of the average citizen. Socialism has NEVER worked in any country it's ever been tried in.

But when it comes to playing with people's lives and well-being, these xayawaan Socialists overlook it for the sake of their ideology.

We Somalis have always been a free-market type of people. Even in the days of Ancient Somalia, we used to maintain vast trading networks trading with the Chinese, Romans, Persians, and Greeks. We built, exported and produced goods and services. The Medieval Somalis were no different, and they maintained these vast, profitable trading networks. The Somalis were literally one of the most prominent merchants of the Indian Ocean, and we had complete control over certain industries. We were always a free-market, capitalist type of people. And with our wealth, we established social safety nets to help our tribal brethren and provide for them a decent standard of living. Alhamdulilah.

Lots of sources. Lots of reading, research and looking at economic growth projections. You're way over your head kiddo....I actually find it almost unbelievable that you would tout Venezuela as an economic model worth emulating. Of all countries

Are you f-king kidding me? I've looked at everything from the New York Times to the Wall Street Journal, to everything in between. I've actually met older Venezuelans who have told me the economic situation in their country. I've read journals by MIT professors, op-eds by think-tanks, and economic projections by Investors Business Daily.

Venezuela is an utter failure. The only reason why there's some semblance of economic growth is due to their vast amounts of oil. It's a banana republic that is almost completely reliant on their oil exports to sustain their economy. But the growth in Venezuela is nothing like you'd expect it to be. It mostly consists of Government Agencies opening up some health clinics and giving out free school-lunches to the children. But that's not economic growth in the classic sense, and I can get into it in far more detail.
