Moqdisho and Hargeisa

Postby Togdeer » Sun Feb 15, 2015 4:53 pm

There is only 2 cities in the Somali peninsula
Hargeisa and Moqdisho, the rest are towns, not cities.
That includes Kismayo, Boosaso, Jigjiga, Berbera...

A city has got more to do with status or relevance than it has to do with population. For example if it's a capital of a province (administrate significance) or a commercial hub which has economic clout and significance (where many people meet and do business), if it has important buildings like a particular mosque or cultural buildings. Generally though cities tend to be larger than towns.

Hargeisa is a little bit smaller than Xamar, but it is growing 10 times faster.
I think Hargeisa has more potential. And its better for business.

I would say Xamar is by far has the most potential. Whether it will be realized is another.

Hargeisa and Mogadishu are large slums. Doesn't matter how many people live there. They represent the darkest side of the already dark continent. I would be worried if any one of those cities have more than 5 million people by 2050. You can only get away with having shanty status for so long. Roads, bridges, infrastructure is needed and considerable investment needs to come very soon or we are in trouble.

if any city has potential it is berbera. almost all future somaliland investments will take place in berbera.

berbera
mogadishu
djibouti
kismayo.

those will be the major somali players.
