Saddat told Hafez that Egyptians airplanes were carrying out attacks inside Israel. If it wasn't for that blatant lie, the Syrians wouldn't have attack Israel and they wouldn't lose the Golan heights. There's a retired Syrian General, forgot his name, that talks about the failure and he mentions the betrayal of Egypt. Saddat didn't win the war nor did he reach his political goals, instead Syria lost one of its most fertile regions and water source.
The empty Arab bravado is well known. They won't attack the Ethiopians. It's all talk.
Sure the Syrians were duped. The Egyptians were interested in a short war where they could make peace with Israel and gain back the Sinai. But when it came to the heat of the moment it showed that the Egyptians were willing to throw away there plans and do the honourable thing.
Now for Somalis in Ethiopia. They should forget about muslims. I don't get Somalis and their obsession with other Muslims. To hell with muslims, we're talking about Somali interests.
I dont believe Somali and Muslim interests are separate. Sure their is national and religious interest/objects and the two can conflict at times. But if you look deep Somalis are muslim people whos interests and political outlook is heavily influenced by Islam, the two are intertwined and inseparable. On both side of the borders there are no people that are closer to us and are willing to support our cause on the basis of sharing the same religion, people fight for what they respect and with and what they identify with. For example the Muslims in Kenya have always supported somalis and in the elections to join during British rule the Muslims alongside the Somalis chose to join the Somali republic whereas the Pagans and christians chose to stay attached to Kenya.
Somalis should use the resources of Ethiopia to build their regions, get scholarships in different fields and work their way to the top. I know a couple Somali pilots from Ethiopia. They took their chance and they do not reg True Somalis in character, no qabiil talk and they do not wish to be Habeshas. Their land is part of Ethiopia and therefore Ethiopia has an obligation when it comes to their future. I support Somaliland but I hope the communities from Somaliland in Ethiopia use Ethiopian resources to build their region.
I dont have a problem with individuals choosing to take advantage of resources within Ethiopia, at the end of the day they are empowering themselves and those close to them. What i have a problem with is the very existence of a Ethiopian nation state/empire in its current form. Its a state which has the arms and apparatus of an empire/colonial state. For much of its history it was brutally set up and then controlled by imperious Highlanders whom have used it to settle scores, extend their own tribal goals, marginalize and oppress minorities. The reality is that Ethiopia has to reform and once that happens its break up will be inevitable.Reforms such as securing rights - of which is one is freedom for self determination. At the moment freedom and democracy is a sham and Ethiopia functions like it has before the 90s. At the moment the Issa are being forced off their lands and somali regions are being attached to Oromos and Afar.
Whilst i agree that we work with Ethiopians today Somalis must one day propel themselves to a state where they can expel Ethiopia from that region. That's the ultimate goal.
The end goal is obviously Hawd and Somaliland reuniting but until then we have to work with the system an not against it. The same goes for other Somalis. Some parts of the Somali region is actually more fertile than the southern parts of neighboring Somalia. The diversity in climate also enables crops that can't grow in Somaliland or Somalia.
I agree Somalis should make maximum use of any opportunities that exists at the moment. As we are divided today their is much we can do anyways.
The Oromos are well represented. Many of the high ranking generals in the Ethiopian army are Oromo and the Ethiopian army is predominantly Oromo. For the Oromos two problems exist. The well represented community are the assimilated Oromos. Many of the famous Ethiopian kings and warriors were Oromo but they were converted by the weaker Amhara, Menelik an Haile Selassie being two examples. Even Mengistu was Oromo mixed with a a Bantu/Nilotic group that lives in south western Ethiopia.
Lol arent those sodiers simply cannon fodder? Werent these assimilated Oromos called Shewans and they did not identify as Oromo much more with Amhara as they took up their culture. By the way Haile Selassie was ethnically an Oromo but considered himself Amhara - his regime was virtually dominated by Amhara and during his time threw his people under the bus. He didnt lift a finger when famines broke out in Wollo and that killed huge number of people Oromos. He didnt care so long as they were not "Amhara that were dying".
By the way i heard Mengistu was a Wolayta. Those folks speak Omotic, whilst many of them may look like Cushitic/Semitic but they have mixed with the real Omotic (whom are mostly Nilotic + bit of Hunter Gatherer + Euroasian) to a good degree.
Nonetheless this group associate Christianity and indirectly Ethiopia with Habesha and Habesha culture and they would never go against the Habeshas because they're brainwashed. On the other hand, The poor Oromos are the Waaq worshipping farmers or Muslim agropastoralists. Who are at the bottom of the barrel. Just like the Somalis they are destructive and they haven't achieved anything. However this group is one step ahead of Somalis and they use Ethiopia to gain land inhabited by Somalis like Bale. When the original Somali region of Hararghe was split in 1994. Today the Afars are doing the same and they annexed land in Shiinile. We're the only group who's left behind because of our incompetence. You have people who romanticize about a nonexistent Somaliweyn, another group is content with the Kilil because they can dominate other Somalis. The worst are the ones I saw in Addis who chew and drink and live like bums while the Xaliimos get beat by all kinds of subhumans.
We have to think outside the f-king box.
I agree with this part tbf. Somalis aint going to unite anytime soon or reach a level where they can fight Ethiopia. What there need to change is our political culture. We need to have an approach where we show a pretence or a facade whereby we accept Ethiopia but at the same time secretly harbour other ideas. The truth is Somalis are too stupid to do this so as a group will be suffering for a long time to come.
