The only people that actually benefit are the folks getting the money in the first couple of months, so they can finance another project and make much more than they're paying out.

The last person should've just opened a savings account

am thinking about starting ayuuto/hagbad with punch of Single Friends so that each of us can get married when he takes the Ayuuto. It will be about $500 a month and we are 15 guys for 30 months . We need $15000 for each person. We can have one guy get married every 2 months. That would be like 30/12= 2 1/2 yrs. It isn't that bad. Within 2 1/2 yrs, All of us would be married. Each of us can cash his own wedding with the $15000. deposit for the appartment, furniture, aroos, gabaati etc.

Sounds like a good plan wallaahi. Anyone of you want to join us? The creteria for joining is, You must have a job, be single guy and bring Someone that is going to assure you in case you run bankrupt or refused to pay. If you die or become totally unresponsive, you are forgiven. If you become handicapped but still gets money from the state, you pay.

PM me your name and Number if you are interested.

But it's your savings lol? I could understand the point if you somehow had a bonus, but you don't.

I felt bad spending my xagbad cashout, I just put it in my savings. (After splurging a bit lol)

How do you go about it.

Does one ask random bilcaamo in the street
No one will allow a lone male to enter their xagbaad.

You need to find yourself a female relative, preferably an older lady.. and ask her to help you find a hagbad, she will act on your behalf.. she wont touch your money but if anything goes wrong I.e. you don't pay on time or you do a runner once you get paid.. she'll be held responsible.. but they would never allow a new and random person to get the first pay out, they always get the last share till you prove yourself.

What the heck is the point?

I was in a small one once, putting in $500/monthly among 12 women.

Was the most stressful thing of my life. I asked for my month to be November (birthday month) and what was the point? All year I was paying in $500, only to cash out my own savings in November (minus $500 that I needed to pay the last lady in December anyways)...

I am very happy with a savings account, and zero stress. :|

Is it just a lending thing? Because clearly the other members don't need it if they are able to contribute monthly...

Are you in one? Have been in one?
I quit doing that long time ago. I put money in my savings account. Hell with people deciding when you should access to your money, and there is a risk as well.

But we should understand some people can't save money, and this is their way of saving they can't access until it is their turn.

It has good and bad aspect as well.

Over here it is mainly used by old/middle aged Somali women who are defrauding the welfare system by saving most of their dole in cash while living with their husband who works which they didnt declare.
It is better you write things like this in Somali if you want to diss your fellow Somali women like the way you did, so at least only Somalis can read.

I remember in late 1990s when I was in Ottawa, Somalis talking about ceer in an Italian restaurant, frequented by Somalis, and how to cheat the system. The Italian owner of the restaurant laughed at them when he understood what their talking about and told them "you people are jeep, we still collect the pensions of deceased parents, uncles and aunts, and nobody figures out, and here you're talking about [ceer]." He ended by saying, "every body commits a fraud, but we keep our mouths shut."

Bottom line, Somalis are at the bottom when it comes to committing a fraud on taxpayer resources, and from highest officials to he lowest, every body does his thing to get a piece of the pie. Quit dissing Somali moms who are raising 5 or more children because majority of Somali husbands are not fulfilling their financial responsibilities.

How do you come up the word 'Xagbaad'? When I saw first the title, I thought you meant to say 'Xabag', and I was like why 'Xabag' needs to be discussed, then I saw the Ayuuto and figured out what you meant. Anyhow, it is clear your af Soomaali has developed in the diaspora 8-)
