Absolutely, I totally agree.No. However, the story was meant to be illustrative. And demonstrate that there are different and more lucrative paths outside of white collar positions. In fact, I see a person in a trade as freer than his/her 9-5 counterpart which is in work-bondage through their own volition (you must do what you can I suppose). Let's face it Somalis tend to shy away from the trades, since its not an "exalted activity" like law for instance (see quote below). I have yet to find one Somali plumber, electrician or welder in Toronto. I'm sure they exist, but are a needle in a haystack.Soph, was he Somali?
I just had to post this quote:
We must learn to honor excellence in every socially accepted human activity, however humble the activity, and to scorn shoddiness, however exalted the activity. An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society that scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water. -John W. Gardner-
I don't have a son if I did I would've ditched his momDoqon foqol doqon. Kulaha how can I face my mom.

You said you're in community college, you completed
1, 1/2 years out of the 2 or 3 and want to quite already?
Today, even a Bachelor degree can't guarantee you a decent job
with all those Indians around willing to work for less wage and longer hours. Unless
You know somebody or family/friend arrange it for you, you pretty much screwed.![]()
I know a handful of Somali guys and girls who get into hagbad and work their butt
off to pay for uni. Some even stop for a semester till they save enough for the next. Degree is power.
LOL @ don't like white collar job, so you wanna work in labor like a slave?
Why some American Somalis are so lazy and unproductive? maybe it's because of all that welfare smh
P.S you sure it has nothing to do with your upcoming son?

I concur. I knew this kid that became a millionaire by 25. He was in a trade - plumbing, where he made 6 figures and he segwayed into real estate soon after.Rageedi.Sxb Take my Advice. I am old enough to be your dad, 36 years old, been in america since I was 21 ( 15 years) and have done so many jobs ( Processing Turkey meat plan, walking in the stock room for Target, working in marshalls in the picking used Underwears for women and, worked in Assembly lines, securtiy Jobs etc). Apart from the hard jobs, dealing with uneducated managers, people monitoring you when you go to break, punching out for lunch and not be late for a minute from break etc, I was only earning the highest wage of $12/hour. It was not enough to pay my bills and I was living stressful life from Paycheck to paycheck. Everyday tired and stressed. I was like you. I had no intention for school, I also had no family here to pay my bills so had to work. One day, with the help of God, I decided enough was enough. I didn't care what subject I like and what interest me. All I wanted was to get a degree to increase my wages. I went to school and worked full time Job. I slept only 4 hrs most of the days. After 4 years, I finished. I got my first job at $22.50. That is double my salary. I work in a computer job and hardly do anything. I only work less than 15% and can even take my computer home to work from there if the office is boring. I am now at work earning $23 but still typing this in Somalinet. I go facebook, viber and listen to youtube video while I get paid $23/hr. If that is not enough to boost your moral, you can do what you want. As your Adeer, hope you make the right decision. You make a hay while the sun shines. If your agirl, you would have been married and have a somali truck driver pay your bills. But now, You are a man. How you gonna take care of a wife and kids working in walmart? Or you think moma will always be there to give you break fast? You need to stop this dhoocil like suuro and grow some balls.![]()
But like Itrah said, post-secondary isn't for everyone. Bandit have u considered learning a skilled trade? Electricians, plumbers, welders and many other types of tradesmen make way more money than most people in white collar paper-pushing office jobs.

Good call. There is a class which you can take to teach you how to manage and balance school and outside lifeYou convinced me to go back and finishI have been there before, it can get frustrating. I think your problem is lack of focus due external issues.
What you need is to seperate yourself from all these destructive things including somalinet fadhi ku dirir and knock out your general studies.
Also avoid looking too far ahead. Just focus in the moment. One class, one semester at a time.
The more success in class Will build your confidence and that will motivate you to keep going.
Your mother has more experience and sees and knows things, she wants You to have the best future. She is on your team, not an obstacle. See it that way
And also whether you go to school or not, time will not stand still, so you might as well do something
Ill give it one more trySo MCTC was hard for you? Lol
But seriously people never make it out of MCTC because they socialize with their homies way too damn much.
But on a serious note
I would advice you not to quit. I know you might hate it now but think about the long term. Education is the key to success.
Or you can take 6 months of from school and see how things are going. Dont tell your mom that you're quitting school. Tell her you want to work for 6 months and then you will continue with your education.
Good luck!

I was just busting your balls, but true the advice given you is sufficient to make you reconsider.
If you really need a break. Take a gapyear(or half). Go work, cool your head down, get your motivation back and finish what you started.
Remember to always have a plan B.

Those big fries and burgers in the USA are really having an impact on the motivation of Somalis.

fuck the jakes), I would just make yourself a tad bit more attractive since it's looks like your PD is past the point of just hiring qaxootis simply cuz they're qaxootis. Join the Army/Air Force/Navy/Marines and pick a career field that translates well to the private sector. But only go for 4 years, they'll try to make you commit for 6. If you do join the Military, you'll quickly realize you can make a great career in various different ways. Veteran's status goes a long way in Federal/State/County/City employment, as well.
