This is a good nice. Soon, wiilasha yaryar waxay heli doonaan gabdho yaryar oo aan lataaban oo dareen leh. This is too late for guys like us. Over 35 years and up old men like me can only be likely match for girls who are 25 years old and up. Those have already been diagonally and horizontally cut. I am hopeful if programs and resources are made available to women ..we will be able to eradicate the practice of FGM. It is women who perpetuate it.

I remember my mum telling me that it was a rite of passage and most girls although terrified couldn't wait to get it done ... Waayo ur peers would bully you and u'd get labeled as 'dirty' 'dh!lo' if you didn't.

I am happy for the sisters and whoever else is going to benefit from it but It would have been nice if I would benefit some of the fun that will come out of it. You know what it means like everyone screaming on the bedrooms and you just pretending getting part of the pleassure.

This law was written by Sahra ali samatar and her feminist colleagues of the ministry for women. The Punishment include " locking up any person who assist, solicite and carries out the procedure for 10 years". FYI, most of this feminsts are over 30 and they have gone through the procedure themselves. They are emotionally attached to it.

I would say any female who was born outside of Somalia doesn't have to get FGM, and thats anyone born after 1995, maybe even earlier.

Even though i read on the news that a Somali family in London took their infant daughters back home to get circumcised. This happened in 2014 and they were charged for that.

This pathetic government can't even secure the streets of Mogadishu. What makes you think they can enforce this anti-FGM law?

These laws aren't worth the paper they're printed on, if there doesn't exist a proper security/police apparatus in the country.

I dont like the term FGM because of its history and politics. In this european linguistics dominated world one of the challanges of being from a culture where female circumcision is practiced is finding a language for it. How do you find the language to speak about this without reincscribing that discursive violence?

What about the complexities of the practice that dont fit the western narratives about patriarchy & Somali women agency?.

We need a better full context a better vocabulary and emphasize the importance of who speaking and for whom.

So much Anti-FGM activism is rooted in Eurocentrism , racism, western gaze upon the African As barbaric & uncivilized.

Somali Degenerates with the help of their western exploiters have done a good job in reducing the Somali woman to status & spectacle of her genitalia.
