Cease Fire Deal in Galkacyo

Postby Rambie » Tue Nov 24, 2015 6:33 am

Traditional elders from Galmudug and Puntland states have successfully brokered a ceasefire deal to stop Galkayo fighting which left nearly ten people dead on Sunday.

After a meeting in Galkayo, the elders have inked a joint peace deal which is aimed at ending the renewed conflict in southern Galkayo town between Galmudug and Puntland administrations.

The following articles were agreed upon during the meeting;

To stop the fighting immediately and unconditionally

Each side (Galmudug and Puntland) should withdraw its forces from the battle zone

To end the root cause of the conflict through peaceful dialogue

On Sunday, forces from Galmudug and Puntland clashed in southern Galkayo town, resulting losses on both soldiers and civilians in the area.

The fighting in southern Galkayo was a severe psychological blow for civilians.

Cease fire for what? it's BS there will be no cease fire this time around.

GALKAYO, Somalia, November 24, 2015 (Garowe Online)-Amid heightened armed tensions in central Somalia town of Galkayo, residents began fleeing homes overnight on Monday, Garowe Online reports.

The fleeing of ordinary residents, mainly in the vast north has come after negotiations to broker ceasefire between warring Galmudug militias and Puntland broke down.

Traditional leaders and businessmen Monday embarked on mediations to quell conflict that left five dead and as many as 50 wounded by Sunday.

Puntland forces and Galmudug militiamen reportedly turned down requests for both to withdraw to earlier positions.
:stylin:

The two sides traded accusations over responsibility for Galkayo clashes.

Puntland Presidency said in statement that Galmudug militias attacked masons and construction workers at key junction connecting Garsoor to Galmudug-controlled Barahley neibhorhood ‘unprovoked’.

Meanwhile, Galmudug security Minister bashed Puntland for encroaching into their territories.

Since precarious peace pact in 1993, Galkayo has been a flashpoint for recurrent skirmishes.

Sxb you have to understand why he is cheer leading and why his cousin cumar maxamoud Halmog just like myself who also live in the city don't want this war, Knet is from faroole clan or those closely related, they currently have beef with cumar maxamoud gaalkacyo who usually dominate bintland politics, they want them as refugees in Garowe and hence out of the political discourse into irrelevancy, foroole tried this instigation of war many times, this why you see all reer-mahad's fiercly opposed, threatening to pull their man out of the army, Cumar mahamoud are the smartest of the dhabacyo crew, the others are real degenerates.

If the fighting was happening in Garowe or bosaaso he would be peaching peace.

I am actually supportive of an aggressive first strike campaign followed by talks with Faroole who will appreciate the weakened Cumar Maxamud position.

Well it's true.
The peace deal fall apart.
By Mohamed Omar Hussein

The residents of Galakio town the provincial headquarters of Mudug in central Somalia have started fleeing from their houses on Tuesday after fighting took place between soldiers from Puntland and Galmaudug states went into combat on the 22nd of this month.

In that fight over 10 people died and more than 40 sustained injuries of different levels.

The fleeing of the population from both sides started in the mid hours of Tuesday night, till in the morning of Tuesday, after a ceasefire agreement reached by the elders from both sides could not be an effective one.

The annihilation of the ceasefire comes after soldiers from both sides were told by the elders to vacate the frontline, but Puntland soldiers insisted to stay there, and this has may result a new tension of combat to resume.

Each state is accusing the other for mobilizing combat, but independent sources say that both sides are mobilizing their soldiers for heavy combat.

The fight initially started after Puntalnd soldiers started constructing an illegal road construction which was entered in the boundary of the Galmudug controlled zone.
