Why Hobyo and not Garacad?

Postby xirsi95 » Sun Dec 06, 2015 10:17 am

Why did Yusuf Kenadiid pick Hobyo as his capital which is a Hawiye city instead of Garacad which is a Daarood city? They have same geography as well. And before you say it was close to Boqor Cismaan's territory in Nugaal, I'll remind you that during that time it has been years before a Majeerteen sultan ruled the land inbetween Qaw to Caluula to Garacad to Geladi with a iron fist, as you know the Sayyid was welcomed with open arms to Eyl before he started kicking people off mountains. Plus all those historical forts and buildings he built in Hobyo were either destroyed by moryaan and the remaining were finished by the 2004 tsunami and Indian Ocean earthquake, I think the only structure from the 2 Kenadiid eras left is the tower of Ali Yusuf Kenadiid in downtown Gaalkacyo which was part of the Gaalkacyo Fort built by Ali Yusuf Kenadiid but later destroyed by moryaan.

These are the pictures of the Gaalkacyo fort in 1926 shortly after Cumar Samatar's rebellion ended and before moryaan were invited to settle in Gaalkacyo.

Every-time Somalis brag about those miniscule forts built in the early 20th century I cringe. Delusion of grandeur is real.

Lmao that's funny. But we all know when the 2004 tsunami hit Somalia. The toxic waste containers were found washed up on the beaches of hobyo. Ali Mahdi signed an agreement with Italians allowing them to dump toxic waste on the Habar Gidir coast. "The impact of the tsunami stirred up hazardous waste deposits on the beaches around North Hobyo (South Mudug) and Warsheik (North of Benadir). Contamination from the waste deposits has thus caused health and environmental problems to the surrounding local fishing communities including contamination of groundwater. Many people in these towns have complained of unusual health problems as a result of the tsunami winds blowing towards inland villages. The health problems include acute respiratory infections, dry heavy coughing and mouth bleeding, abdominal haemorrhages, unusual skin chemical reactions, and sudden death after inhaling toxic materials.
It is important to underscore that since 1998, the Indian Ocean has experienced frequent cyclones and heavy tidal waves in the coastal regions of Somalia. Natural disasters are short-term catastrophes, but the contamination of the environment by radioactive waste can cause serious long-term effects on human health as well as severe impacts on groundwater, soil, agriculture and fisheries for many years. Therefore, the current situation along the Somali coastline poses a very serious environmental hazard, not only in Somalia but also in the eastern Africa sub-region."
No mentioning of Majeerteen coastal towns lmao. This is the link http://www.unep.org/tsunami/reports/TSU ... LAYOUT.pdf

Ilaria Alpi (Rome May 24, 1961 – Mogadishu March 20, 1994) was an Italian journalist killed in Mogadishu, Somalia together with her camera operator Miran Hrovatin. In 2009 Francesco Fonti, a former 'Ndrangheta member, claimed that Ilaria Alpi and her cameraman were murdered because they had seen toxic waste shipped by the 'Ndrangheta arrive in Bosaso, Somalia.[1]
