In your mad rush to denigrate Atheists (which you're entitled to) you managed to denigrate Science, the single greatest and most fruitful of all human enterprises. Atheism and science have nothing to do with each. There were Atheists long before science.

And things don't "magically rearrange themselves." Every cause has an effect and every effect must comply with invariant natural laws of the universe (i.e. thermodynamics, gravity, etc.).

Rushdie wrote middling, boring book loosely based on the life prophet Mohammed. There is a section in the book about the Satanic Verses incident which allegedly resulted in Mohammed mistakenly being duped by Satan. Of course, Muslims reject the whole affair for understandable reasons. And Rushdie was just stirring things up for no good reason and as usual intolerant Muslims took it to the next level with death threats and hysterical protests.
