My tribute to the greatest Somali warriors of all time

Postby TheFuturist » Sat Apr 16, 2016 4:17 pm

My tribute to true Somali heroes of long ago.
The Abyssinian Emperor Menelik's Somali expedition, consisting of an army of 11,000 men, made a deep push into the vicinity of Luuq, which was ruled by the Somali Gabroon dynasty. However, his troops were soundly defeated by the Gabroon army, with only 200 soldiers returning alive. The Abyssinians subsequently refrained from further expeditions into the interior of Somalia, but continued to oppress the people in the Somali Ogaden region by plundering the nomads of their livestock numbering in the hundreds of thousands.
These wadani, honourable and noble Somali men fought to keep their people and nation free from Abyssinian oppression and subjugation. They have their lives, their sweat and their tears for the freedom and dignity of their people. They fought valiantly, day and night, and successfully repel the invaders, interlopers and occupiers who were the Xabashis. It is unfortunate that people like Hawdian today love these same Xabashis.

May they rest in peace and serenity, for eternity. May God place light before them, light after them, light behind them and light around. May God shower them with his blessings and his mercy. May their ancestors and descendents alike take pride in their achievements. May they be forever remembered for their bravery and dignity and selflessness. May they always be a beacon of light for the Somali people in our darkest of times.

That's good that you have your own little thing MrFuturist.

Keep it up but no need to use me.

I just teach history and I can see your source is not accurate.

I'm not going to crush you little party but just know the Abbysinians used much less army and conquored the Ogaden, Bale and Sidamo in just one year (1891) under Ddjazmac Asfaw Darge. Ras Makonnen, who was the father of young Teferi later Emperor Haile Selassie managed the campaign while Ras Darge subdued the Arsi. The most complex and costly campaign was Arsi which took 4 years and thousands of lives.

Dej Darge was the cousin of Menelik while Makonnen was his maternal cousin (inaabti).

The defeat of Arsi opened Harar, Ogaden and Bale while Ras Gobana's conquest of Wellega opened up the south including Sidamo and Borana.

So what took less than a year was no defeat nor retreat.

The Italians chased them later and after WW2 the land was once again under the British and HIM asked for it back.

The British didn't want to give it back but the Americans convinced them they do because HIM gave the US military base in Eritrea and US goal was to stop USSR penetration of Africa.

Marka no they did not even lose 300 men in Ogaden. It was easy defeat due to many factors.

I don't entertain lies.

It's impressive Menelik conquored land bigger than France and Spain in 10 years from 1882 to 1891.

It would have been faster if the Italians didn't invade north Tigray, which forced him to call back the wedtern and southern armies.

After Italian defeat they carried on and took Benishangul from Sudan, Gambella, Illubabor, Wellega, Kaffa, Jimma, Borana, Omo valley, tried to conquer Kenya but the British stopped them, Ogaden, tried to cross into Southern Somalia but the Italians warned them, tried to claim Somaliland but the British told them fk off.

Allowed the Italians keep Eritrea for strategic reasons. Menelik didn't want Tigrais with the support of other Tigringya speakers to claim his throne like Ras Mengesha Yohannes.

He was smart man and great military strategist who did not lose battle.

He had about 200,000 modern European rifles by the end and hundreds of thousands of other arms.

That's why he is the conquoring Lion of Judah.

Hate or love it.

The only challenge they faced was Arsi. Those were real warriors. It took less than a year to defeat Italy but almost fours in Arsi.

Image

It was an Oromo-led conquest; Menelik (half Oromo, wife Oromo), Ras Gobana (Oromo), Ras Ali of Wollo ( Oromo), both Darge (mum) and Makonnen (father, his mum is half), Hassan of Jimma, etc.

Guban my brother it's written as Biimaal. Not Biyomaal as the others Somalis write, since they originated in the North and not next to the sea. Their sub-clan the Gaadsen still own large chunks of territories in Ethiopia and Kenya

The Geledi/Gobroon sultanate was destroyed by the Biimaal warriors.

Look how skilled they were and blessed.
