Sheikh Xasan Barsane was a good friend of Sayid Maxamed Abdulle Xasan. He was his representative in the south. Both of them were members of the Saalixiya movement.

If there is someone who was not given due honour, it is Sheikh Aweys. He was an opponent of both Sayid Maxamed and Sheikh Xasan Barsane because he was of the leader of the Qaadiriya fraternity.
