This recent footage of Laascaanood shows how much neglect and damage the city has suffered since the Dhulbahante lackeys invited the broken toothed iiddoor into the city. 10 years ago Laascaanood was bigger and more prosperous than Burco and Garoowe , but years of deliberate neglect and sanctions have left their toll on the city.

Las Caanood was a lot smaller than it is now 10 years ago. It had grown tremendously in the last 10 years under Somaliland.

Isaaq were part of the founding of Las Canod, they used to live there until recently. This was all before it became a modern town though, when it was just a small village, many settlements were shared between different Isaaq and Harti clans.

There are many Isaaqs living there today but not a large community to have their own xaafad.

I created the footage and put it on youtube, it's just a compilation of videos that i took of various parts of the city I visited during my visit last month. Initially, I wanted to create a video which showed the development of the city in recent years but, I didn't have enough time. So, that footage does not in any way show the reality of the whole city.

it's true since Somaliland captured Las Anod, its development declined, however, in last the 2/3 years a lot of residents who evacuated have come back and the diaspora have also returned as well. Therefore, the city is improving and expanding, the amount of construction going on currently is unprecedented. There many roads that have been built financed by NGO's and business it booming. Within the next 5 years LA will probably surpass Garowe again.

Laascaanood is 100% Dhulbahanate, the only Isaaq people that live there are women who are married to Dhulbahante men!

Well done Sharmarke you are a true Dhulbahante patriot. I have met many Dhulbahante diaspora who would love to go back to their homeland but cant stand the thought of encountering the jaad inflicted iiddor and their local homeguards and collaborators.Since you were there recently could you enlighten us on two things I noticed in the footage, raw as it was.
The large amounts of garbage and rubble, as well as the near total lack of greenery. Is there no functional local government, ngo ' s, , women or youth groups or self help groups that can work to clean and green the city.
How active are the returning Dhulbahante diaspora in light of the shameful presence of Shanty land in the city.

There is an idiot here called xiimaaya or xaarmaaya or something like that who asked what one of the Dhulbahante people I profiled has done for his people. Somalis say even a fool has some intelligence left. It was a good question, asked with a lot of hostility. I have asked a lot of successful Dhulbahante diaspora why they don't go back to invest in their homeland. The answer I invariably get is that no successful Dhulbahante wants to kowtow to an iiddor administration. It's a catch 22 situation. Everybody wants to go home and help contribute to their homeland and people. When Majeerteen, or Ogaadeen, or iiddor go back home, power is in the hands of their people. The president, all the important ministers, directors, head of ngos' etc are their kinsmen. So they feel truly at home.

But when the Dhulbahante goes to Laascaanood, the president is Siilmaanyo, the governor is some khat chewing iiddor bum, etc etc or their brain dead lackeys.No self respecting Dhulbahante wants to engage with this. So the homeland suffers because it lacks the input of the people it needs most, it's best and brightest.

They have two options, to deal with Qawdhan either by working with him or to fight him and expel him from the land. The first option is what is hated the most by Dhulbahante and the second option has been attempted, and is the best option, but the right leadership has eluded Dhulbahante so far, and the fractious nature of the current leadership has been exploited by the neighboring clans.

Without the Dhulbahante liberating Laascaanood and placing Ssc under Dhulbahante rule, Xaamaaye's question still stands.

A lot of development happened under Somaliland. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, you either go back and contribute or kindly stfu.

There are many Isaaqs living there today, I met many of them. As I said above this is not to say they constitute any large numbers but they're there. Isaaqs were there at founding of the settlement when it was just another Las. Enough with the cuqdad.

Most towns in Africa grow organically over a period of time due to rural urban migration. It has nothing to do with any government or state, certainly not in Sambusaland. Look at hargeysa it's one big Shanty town, it's basically just a middle size iiddor slum.

And you are right, there are many iiddor living in Laascaanood, mostly the low caste, nappy headed Habar Jeclo, who mainly clean the town's toilets.

Habar Jeclo have historically cleaned the stables of the Dhulbahante, so it was a natural transition to clean the sewers and gutters of Laascaanood.

Keep Laascaanood clean or Stfu.
