Somalia is winning while the world burns

Postby Typhoon » Tue Apr 24, 2018 9:50 am

Mogadishu (HOL) -Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Khaire said that international partners have agreed that Somalia had made visible changes in public finance management, good governance and economic recovery.

The PM's comments came after a recent high-level roundtable in Washington attended by Somalia’s Finance Minister, Abdirahman Beileh, lauded the developments made by Somalia in the financial sector.

PM Khaire mentioned that officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank finally agreed to support Somalia resume printing its currency.

“One year ago, we promised to improve the country’s economic situation, a few days ago our finance minister has attended a meeting in Washington, where it was acknowledged that the Somali government had made a big achievement in the financial and economic reform agenda. Thus, participants agreed to help Somalia resume its banknotes for the first time since the government collapsed in 1991,” he said.

He added that some European nations have also pledged to begin providing direct financial support to the federal government channelling the financial aid via the Central Bank.

He noted that the debt clearance path is now open for the federal government.

According to the IMF, Somalia's external debt stands at about $5.2 billion. Somalia has not made a service or amortization payment on the debt since civil war broke out nearly three decades ago. As a result, the majority of the debt is interest and penalties accrued since the collapse of the central government.

Much of the principal debt dates back to the Cold War when the world's superpowers battled for supremacy in Somalia and the horn of Africa. Almost all of Somalia's debt burden is accounted for by arrears on credit advanced in the early 1980's, well before most of Somalia's population - where 60% of the population is estimated to be under the age of 25 - was born.

Somalia's government has undergone an aggressive campaign to access debt relief which includes adherence to an IMF staff-monitored programme.

The IMF estimates that economic growth is set to quicken to 2.5 percent in 2018 from 1.8 percent in 2017.

Earlier this year it was announced by the Ministry of Finance that $42.5 million was raised in domestic revenue during the first quarter of 2018, a fiscal milestone since the collapse of the central government in 1991.
in the age of geopolitics, the lion is back

2 state solution is definitely on the table, even during the Kacaan era it was on the table, the problem with that solution is SL is not a single entity, it is made up of different clans with different objective, the status quo will remain until the South becomes more powerful and able to engage in these type of negotiations, as for now, the only realistic negotiations is reconciliation efforts, this current government simply does not have the mandate to sanction a split.

everyone has right to seek a better condition for their community and it is possible for some to split from the rest if its agreed upon, Djibouti did it when the Somali state was powerful enough to create havoc inside Ethiopia and was not bothered with the opinions of world powers, this shows you Somali leadership has never been against legitimate secession, but trying to do illegitimately by armed rebellion was the problem. Just as it will be a problem if these different clans in SL start rebelling against the current order, despite SL not being recognized it has an order and administration, which is seen as a legitimate administration by Farmaajo and the SFG.

Any split however will only be feasible with a Somali state sanctioning it.

Any split however will only be feasible with a Somali state sanctioning it.
The Split has already happened, in 1991.
You are not going to agree with it until you are forced to actually face it.
The problem is that you are not a real country yet, you are crawling your way towards sovereignty,
but you are still a UN/AU trusteeship in all but name.

instead of keeping your brother down out of spite, you could have focused on your own problems and adressed them, then we can move on to reconciliation and towards unity.

I know it sounds paradoxical but the biggest obstacle to Somali unity and Somaliweyn is lack of SL recognition. By fighting SL's existence you insure continuing bad blood and hatred, and you should know that the majority of the population were born after 1991, and never knew the Somali republic other than an enemy state.

recognition now, means that we could have cordial relations, economic links etc, and within a generation the bad blood would be gone and a natural movement towards unity would happen.

1. the Somali parliament has never even considered recognizing SL because they do not have the mandate to do so.

2. SL is far from ready to be recognized as it is divided and made up of different factions both politically and militarily.

Avoiding these two truths is not going help your case, a real solution would be stop being Xasiid yourselves, make an inclusive SL administration and make it reach all corners of SL, drop the antagonistic attitude towards the South and actually play a role in supporting progress of the SFG since you took a part in destroying the state you should be responsible for putting it back together and seeking independence after that.

I mean your options are endless, but you pick the most destructive path to your own recognition.

1. the Somali parliament has never even considered recognizing SL because they do not have the mandate to do so.
ofcourse hence the issue of sovereignty. build a real government first.
2. SL is far from ready to be recognized as it is divided and made up of different factions both politically and militarily.
The reality on the ground is that SL controls the majority of its territory and population.
There is no real opposition, Khatumo is dead and was never sustainable it relied attempting to incite violent repression from isaaq so that Dhulbahante could be unified.
We didnt fall for it and minmized violence. No Isaaq attack means Dhulbahante will never unite.
So we can ignore millitant holdouts on the borders, we can even turn a blind eye to the warsengeli when they play both sides ( SL and Puntland). no harm done..

Infact we have more f our territory and borders under our controls than dozens of countries with seats in the UN, including big ones like Pakistan a nuclear power, Ukraine, Iraq, central african republic etc.

Its very easy to be hard headed argue for the recognition of Somaliland in a very hardliner kind of fashion when you are in the west and not directly effected by the consequences, or when you are a direct beneficiary of the ruling elite inside SL regardless of which faction you belong to be it Wadani, Kulmiye, Khatumo etc. But on the ground there is real consequence of these kind of policies, and it effects the ordinary young people the most, this is why there is a rise in Tahriib, rise in people with the same mentality as Naciima Qorane, and rise in political opposition like Wadani, all these things will effect the unity and prosperity of SL, its like you are walking blindly into the abyss.

You should be a bit more humble since Hargeisa is a large refugee camp. However I won't hold it against you since inbreeding is likely high in your circle.

Recognition from the Somali Govt will never ever pass the parliament.....this is 100% fact.
Will another country recognize s/l .......nobody is even close to recognizing them.

Ironically....their biggest supporters Ethiopia/UAE have ruled out recognizing s/l for the foreseeable future.
For s/l this quasi autonomous status is as good as it gets for now.

Personally I'm totally against the fragmentation of Somalia.
I believe we are stronger together than apart. :som:
