What the ONLF and Ethiopia agreement really means

Postby Talo alle udaa » Tue Oct 23, 2018 10:27 pm

The agreement allows the Ethiopian government to kick the can down the road and delay addressing fundamental questions all the while appearing to accommodate as many opposition groups as possible.

The ONLF has several hundred members in Eritrea as well as it's leadership it wants to bring into the Somali region. This agreement will allow it to do that. In fact this week top leaders among the ONLF will be visiting the region.

The State police and the ONLF are now close working together. In the near future, ONLF armed members will become part of the Liyu police, and the political leadership of the region, which the ONLF heavily influences, will advance the aspirations of the organization peacefully.

Until another tipping point is reached, such as oil/gas extraction, or outright refusal to allow a referendum in the region by Ethiopia, were unlikely to see armed conflict between the two sides.

There is no Ethiopian group or entity that will allow the Somali region to secede.

ONLF are like small little kids. The referendum will be rigged in favor of Ethiopia.Moving out of Ethiopia is a miscalculation. We all know its the West that pulls the strings. What ONLF needs is to press for more autonomy within the kilils. Abye is a snake who is buying time to chew OLF before he has ONLF for dessert.

We must know if ONLF has enough soldiers to continue its guerrilla war. I would like to know military capacities of ONLF nowadays.

Maybe a referendum is a real possibility for ONLF.

I dont understand why some people say ONLF has been fighting since 1984, everybody knows ONLF began armed struggle in 1994.

From 1984 it was WSLF daarood faction it was totally destroyed by SNM afaraad faction led by mujahid maxammad cali star boy and the lion of hawd mujahid alakbar. Military strenght at this point is irrelevent as the ONLF and the Liyu police will be integrated. The ONLF plans to consolidate it's gains, integrate and take leading role in the local admin, as well increase unity between the Somali tribes.

The locals are welcoming the agreement

Sitting at that table are ONLF, the president of the somali region, and the head of the former WSLF (Ittihad).

ONLF should change its name and it's current leadership to take control of the whole region in 3 years time. If not onlf will remain the same .
