Remember when I made this post in 2018?
The naval base

2016, absolutely nothing there...solid coastline.

Now it's official that UAE did indeed abandon Berbera and the drenching they did is now reclaimed by nature.

I don't change my position because I want to but because I see the writing on the wall. I am flexible in my views. You just can't sit in the t good things to happen to you by doing the same things for over 30 years.

Now what the usual suspects say?

It's not only the so called marine base that UAE abandoned as you can see as nature refills the drenches and no equipment is on sight but the port itself is just mere political statement for the UAE especially against Djibouti but it didn't work.

DP still dreams about getting back in Doraleh. In fact, it spends more on legal issues pursuing Doraleh than "developing" Berbera.

The Ethiopian federal Government itself too long abandoned Berbera. Now days interest only comes from Jigjiga.
EU launches road project between Ethiopian border and Eritrean ports

Mar 30, 2019: The European Union (EU) commissioner for international cooperation and development Neven Mimica visited Eritrea, launching an initial $22.69mn project for road connections between the Ethiopian border and Eritrean ports.

During his visit, Mimica met Eritrean president Isaias Afwerki Tigrinya to explore ways for the EU and Eritrea to step up political relations and dialogue on matters of concern to both sides.

He stated, "The EU is committed to supporting Eritrea and Ethiopia in delivering their historic peace agreement, which ended twenty years of conflict. This will boost trade, consolidate stability and have clear benefits for the citizens of both countries through the creation of sustainable growth and jobs."

The new project will be financed through the EU Trust Fund for Africa and through the United Nation's Office for Project Services. It will rehabilitate road connections between the Ethiopian border and Eritrean ports to boost trade and create jobs.

This is the first phase of broader support to Eritrea, which is planned to scale up later this year. It is part of the EU's new dual-track approach of strengthening political dialogue with Eritrea, notably encouraging political and economic reforms and improvement of human rights, as well as pursuing development cooperation to tackle root causes of poverty and to reinforce the peace agreement and economic integration.

One of the commitments in 2018 Eritrea and Ethiopia peace agreement is that transport, trade and communications links between the two countries would resume. To achieve this, it requires rehabilitating the main arterial roads between the Ethiopian border and the Eritrean port of Massawa.

Sorry to hurt your feelings kid but don't blame me. Blame those that had lied to all of us. The difference between you and I is that I am comfortable admitting to my mistakes, when I have fallen for a lie but I come back strong and destroy the lies and those who spread them at the first place.

Indeed, I fell for their lies. The truth is in front of all of us. Nature reclaims her land.

Let's see what excuses and more propaganda you have in your camp. There is no way of getting out off this one.

No hard feelings bro. I don't give a flying fuck about what those desert dwellers do or don't do in Berbera, if it were up to me, I would've never signed anything with those fuckers, I would have given the port the French but it was the fault of the corrupt government at the time.

Just pointing out that you would sound silly if you change your views that easily every time you dont like someone or something

This comes as absolutely no surprise to me.
It was never gonna happen in a million years.

The gullible among the secessionists believed all the Ethiopians are our brothers bullshit.
However, the reality is Ethiopia see's them as plain old Somalis and as such would never countenance such a geostrategic advantage.

This is the same reason the Ethiopians will be the last country to recognise sl......they want the secessionists, like every other tin pot entity, weak and dependent.

The sad thing is that Berbera could be reorientated towards serving all Somali lands as a free port.

I'm in the UAE btw. I can only say few things but things don't look good for them. Almost all Somalis have left either for Turkey, China or Qatar.

Boom times are over.

Somalis are born traders.....we don't need UAE...we can import/export directly to our global partners.

Berbera can still work....all it needs is free port status and Somali investment.

We can do it ourselves.

Actually the airport runaway paving is close to finish and the UAE is build a electricity power plant for berbera city.

I just the google earth and the work progress is still ongoing. Should be opening in June.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to restore the Berbera Airport in the second largest city of Somaliland to have it accommodate large aircrafts.

I am always suspicious of UAE when it comes to ports, their economy moving to Import/export so why would they build other peoples ports ? even though the deal was ridiculously in favour of them why would they need it when they can set up Berbera port up for failure and continue to bring in the Dollars at their own port ?

UAE and Qatar are both obsessed with f-king up Somalia, they playing the good cop bad cop. Turkey as an outsider to the region is much more reliable partner, but I even suspect them of setting Somalis up for failure, you are not confident in your own ability others will always take advantage that is just how business is these days.
