Somaliland tried aligning with Saudi and UAE interests especially in the Qatar fiasco. We said that this was shortsighted and it wouldn’t bear the fruits they desired. Somalia led by Farmaajo chose to stay neutral and after a short hiccup have restored relations with everyone and has a stronger relationship of friendship with Qatar.

Somaliland gave UAE a base at no charge and a port for five million a month in the hope of political support and development. It was a desperate move but they had little to no options. They tried and you can’t knock them for trying.
