Shocking discovery for Marehan, Somali, and Land of Punt history: The connection isn't myrrh, it is SALT!!

Postby Gubbet » Thu Jun 03, 2021 5:57 pm

I swear to God, maybe there has not been radical developments or discoveries in Somali history because the people doing it did not have natural understanding.
  • For quite sometime I have been fascinated by the nomenclature "Hodanbari"
    • It exists very high in Marehan geneology where the majority of Marehan come under it
    • It is a compound word in Somali
      • Hodan = prosperity, wealthy, rich [often used to describe land]
      • Bari = East or Sunrise, both interchangeably; May you safely "pass through" or "jump over"; a porral or entrance
    • It seems awfully phonetically similar to one of the Gates of Harar called ASSUMBARI which is a compound word in Harari
      • Assum = Salt
      • Bari = Entrance of a Gate or a Wall or Opening into a Compound or enclosure
  • Now the walls of Harar were built by Emir Nur Mujahid and presumably he would have named the Gates
    • Emir Nur is considered Marehan by Marehan and the textual scholars like Cerulli and Wagner
      • Within Marehan, he comes under HODANBARI
  • Going by the assumption there is a connection between the name of the gate and the name of his family
    • Hodan Bari = Assum Bari
      • Hodan = Assum
  • Then somehow Hodan AS PROSPERITY and Assum AS SALT are linked
    • HODAN (prosperity) = SALT (Assum)
  • Which means Hodanbari = SALTWORKS FROM THE LAND WHERE THE SUN RISES (OR THE EAST) = THE LAND OF PROSPERITY

So I just got curious and put "Somalia salt hodan" on google to see what turns up, no tweaking search, just regular unbiased

I feel like I made a connection here more important to research on Punt and Somalia and about our origins than 100 years of the random, disparate stuff written on it.

Thisbis magnificent, we are going back DEEP IN TIME.

Hodanbari in Marehan geneology

Assumbari, 1 of the 5 gates of Harar
The northern gate, for example, was known as the Assum Bari, because it was used by traders importing assu, or pepper and salt, from the Gulf of Aden coast of Africa

What is the connection you are making because you have left out the conclusion in relation to your title.

MX did live in Bari once upon a time however, and is top in the family tree.

The problem here , and this is no insult and you should use it as a learning moment, you are not aware about the components of research.

My title says "discovery."

Discover is stage 1 in research.

It is like planning an excavation. The point of the excavation is to potentially find an artifact. If and when an artifact is found, it is a discovery.

The archeologist will then analyze, grade, compare, etc etc etc the artifact to see if it informs something relevant to the subject.

At that point the archeologist will write an "explanation" in a research paper with a conclusion about what is being informed by the discovery.

Discovery in itself is not an explanation; it merely provides the possibility to observe or take into consideration a new phenomena in the subject.

What I have done here is discover a link between the specific nomenclature in a major Somali geneology and one of the largest trading emporiums in the fabled Land of Punt. This is of immense etymological significance.

That is a ground breaking discovery that has not been done before according to my knowledge of the subject and I have looked a of writings on this issue.

This is potentially HUGE discovery and I am putting together a list of scholars and/or researchers that I believe are relevant to this subject and will be forwarding to them for analysis and possibly "explanation" if it turns out to inform something important.

But make no mistake, this isn't simply Marehan is Darod and Darod is from Bari. That is missing the point.

This is the discovery of an etymological link with potentially groundbreaking importance.

Etymological links are one if the most important tools in the study of ancient history.

As if it couldn't get more weird, at the beginning of British colonialism in Yemen, right across the Red Sea from "Opone" (Hodan), "Dthambari" was one of only 2 indepedent tribes recognized by British treaties.

They were neither Arab nor Muwallad (Arab +African mixed tribes).

Dthambari was an independent tribe accorded privilege and their principal town in the larger population of Haushabi Region they lived was "Harar/Harur".

Odd, since Hodanbari is the largest section of Marehan and and Harar was the most important town to Marehan in medieval history---across the sea from Yemen in northeast Africa; the Somali Peninsula

Image

Brings even larger questions such as were the "Dthambari" in Yemen a colony from across the sea and Somali Peninsula?

Are they affiliated or are even a branch of the Marehan/Hodanbari?

Were they carriers of E1b1b1 to the Arabian peninsula and trading route there?

Intriguing questions are presented by this anomaly?

Did the Dthambari Yemeni even know a Somali/Marehan/Hodanbari existed across the Red Sea who were the largest section of one of the most important clans in Somali history?

I don't have time for your inconsistent behavior with Information that is not hard to process but which proves difficult for you to process unfortunately.

It is almost (and I apologize to anyone who is offended beforehand) "schizophrenic" and/or bipolar the behavior you exhibit.

That says to me you either have a hard time consistently understanding the purpose, relavance, and procedure of historical intellectual curiosity or you are being superficial and enacting poorly expressed spoiler attempt.

Or both--feeding each other; ignorance and superficial intentions.

Considering I have hinted on multiple occasions that I suspect you to be "Mahoka" (MakhMakh/young ---daanka on Twitter) who effects the same odd behavior on multiple platforms, you would have considered yourself warned beforehand.

Just because I grab hold of your poorly expressed spoiler behavior and strategically use it as a "teaching moment" to the advantage of the topic---should not cause you reason to mistake how I view your poor behavior.

With that said, if you will engage (and I do not limit anyone's engagement of any kind or background), partake in the discussion with basic level of integrity and disavow all superficial interaction with the Information. No one expects everyone, or even most people, to "understand" every subject or point expressed by anyone else, but what is expected is basic integrity and not intentionally playing spoiler and exhibiting poor, juvenile behavior.

I have heard that yemen and oman were not inhabited by arabs in the very beginning. And that they were the land of dark skinned people who looked like somalis so this is interesting.

The thing that intrigues me the most is they had a town named harar. Was that town named after harar or was harar named after that town?

Sbashi,

The Yemeni connection is of secondary importance. It is obviously relevant to the subject matter in the totality, but all of this including Hodanbari and Assumbari, the nomenclatures and the linkage between SALT and PROSPERITY was important for bringing us to "OPONE" the fabled trading emporium of Puntland.

Punt, as you know, is not even "academically" SETTLED regarding where it was actually definitively located and what was it's actual extension.

I don't think as Somalis---the majority of us even understand the issue of Punt is unsettled SCIENTIFICALLY though anecdotally and culturally we assume it is. It isn't.

To DISCOVER an ETYMOLOGICAL LINK between a MAJOR SOMALI GENEOLOGY and the Fabled Land of PUNT through one of the biggest trading EMPORIUMS by way of one of its biggest SUPPLIES/MARKETS is significant---it is MINDBLOWINGLY SIGNIFICANT.

It literally blows my mind.

This might be the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT thing ever contributed by this forum to the world wide net.

I literally have goosebumps on my arms realizing what is happening.

I am forwarding this to a number of scholars I have been researching on this subject and you guys are welcome nto contribute either the identities of scholars or forward it yourself.

I have 0 interest in being protective over this info or anything to do with recognition.

Make no mistake, this is a significant discovery.

Hodan = Prosperity
Assum = Salt
Hodan/Assum = Salt/Prosperity

Bari = East
Bari = Gate
East/Gate = From The Rising Sun

Hodan Bari = Saltworks From the East/Land of Rising Sun

Hodan = Market/Gate to Prosperity = Trading Market = Opone

:!: HODAN = RICH TRADING MARKET FOR SALT = OPONE :!:

 HODAN = OPONE

I would encourage no one respond or quote the spoiler attempt, unless of course they want to be moderated as well. It is very clear at this point, any attention is taken as rewarding the bad behavior.

I have been to the Southern tip of Oman, and went deep in the countryside. Stopped by a small village and observed black Omanis from the mountains who spoke ancient Southern Arabian languages. The Omani guy I was with told me these are indigenous tribes who lived in Southern Oman forever.

Even myself, at that local southern airport in Oman the staff they would yell at me and say go in the Omani national line not other nationals. They’d be shocked when I said I’m actually a US National.

Gubbet,

To this say Southern Yemen, Oman, have a lot of indigenous black folks.
