Postby Af_libaax » Thu Apr 13, 2006 9:23 pm

lets differentiate betweeen culture and religion or one's believe. Culture can change, and is not a believe, and religion or this weird Atheiesm is a believe, which is personal, while culture is part of a community.

I swear i just bumped into one of my child-hood friends a few weeks ago and guess what? That mothafocka has turned Atheist Embarassed

It was so shocking.. anyway, I told him to fock off before nacalada ku soo degirabta hits me as well.. I told my other friend about what happened and he got pissed off at me and told me I should've tried to teach him about Islam because clearly he was ignorant.. so me and my friend talked to him and asked him alot of questions and it turned that dude was completely ignorant.. anyway, now he is more curious about Islam than ever and what we said to him made alot of sense to him..

What I am saying is there is hope for some of these people.. dont give up on them so easily.

Anyway, this guy doesnt like Somali traditions and worships western culture instead. He says we are too backwards...

AFlibax

Being Somali and loving Allah are not synomous. There are some somalis who are devoted wadaads, and there are those who hardly practice anything islamic yet maintain they are muslims. Sometimes there are moryaans raping and killing innocent strangers while swearing on allah numerous times in this ordeal. There are somalis who don't believe in Allah or any God hence the atheist you speak of.

personaly i believe there is a God, but he is not here, he is not a Guardian of mankind either, so I have little concern with God in my life.

While i don't attend religious gatherings or mosques, I do very much take pride in my Somali culture values minus the Allah related things.

no, not all. In particular Islam related components.

Since all you mentioned above have nothing to do with religion, I'm at a loss to see what you're asking or suggesting. Cultures that don't subscribe to any organised religion and have been living in total isolation have traditions/cultures, societal modes that are passed on to posterity... food, art, music, marriage or similar institutions... hell even monkeys, our closest relatives, have much of what you mentioned above. What's your point.

Laughing Gacaliso

Some of the Somali cultures are unique only for Somalis , You know our traditions mostly based on moral thinking , while the Somali atheists most probable will be based on magical brain thinking , You right culture will change when you adopted New envirnment , if You are believer is there any major changed your food culture Halal food Canjeero , Baasto , Hilib Ari most probable Not but Somali atheists will have there new appetite for anything You named Pork chop , ham and cheese , Canjeelo with bacon , You think Somalis will share that . NO , are they willing to live isolation I don't think So , When You get sick after asprin I may say pray for You , Somali atheists magic brain get Laughing Tylenol .

Listend, af-libaax, yes, religion and your change of religion can alter your culture, just as your environment can alter you culture. Culture is like rhetoric which changes as the years go by, but your believes and religion you try to keep that with you, and implement it on you kids and the next generations.

So, no atheism doesnt mean you change your culture, but there is a bit more flexibility to do so, because some things in our culture adhere to the religion, and influenced by the religion.

and with food all they have to do is change the meat, and they can still be somali.

Birth name.

Unlike alot of you, I DO actually have a smidge of self-respect and love of my culture. Also, I'm intelligent and honest enough to admit/know that religion and culture aren't necessarily two sides of the same coin, rather two completely different social organising and information transmitting modes. One can adhere to 1 and reject the other.

Lets be frank here, if Shiekh Abul Aziz 'hairy beast' Wa farouq Ya Shamoun Bin Kedma came to Somalia and told alot of you to jump, ya'll reply: HOW HIGH?

actually, for muslims culture and religion are pretty much one and the same. we may have some pre-islamic elements within our culture, but for the most part, our culture is dictated by our religious beliefs. i believe this is what af-libaax was trying to get at. if you're not muslim, how can you eat somali food? it's halaal and thus blessed in the name of a god you don't believe in. our dress is also dictated by our religious beliefs. so how can you be somali and not be muslim? it's impossible to separate the two. There is no such thing as Halal or haraam food... you just murmur some obscure ritualistic utterings before you slaughter the animal, nothing different or consequential is done.
it's halaal and thus blessed in the name of a god you don't believe in.
God didn't bless anything, you're just too gullible and simple to know better. Perhaps with time, you may gain some much needed wisdom and foresight.
our dress is also dictated by our religious beliefs.
No it isn't. You dress like typical Western/somali woman... so do almost EVERY girl who posts here.
so how can you be somali and not be muslim? it's impossible to separate the two. Rolling Eyes
How is that impossible? Somalis existed long before Islam and will exist for long after Islam is anesthetised and watered down to something tolerable.

dhuusa, i know you like taking peoples sentences out of context. i've seen you play this little game before, but i'm not going to fall for it. you know full well what i meant, but instead of acting like a man about it you decide to play your little 'confusion' game. Arrow
