Look, nobody's plotting anything and it would be treacherous for me to try & harm this country or its citizens, esp. having lived here all my life.

Secondly, I discovered Islam on my own, and it's the only thing that puts everything into perspective. Life, death, existence, etc.

You're right, if I didn't believe Islam was the truth, my whole world would be perceived differently and I would be awed beyond belief at the might arrayed against the Muslim world and would fall into worship & adoration of it.

But I believe and worship in a God which prevents me from worshipping His creation and I believe Islam is the way our Creator intended us to live. Obviously, I am FAR from perfect and sin and have my own severe shortcomings, but that doesn't prevent me from understanding (at least intellectually) that Islam is the way intended for humans.

As the forces of Pharoah were approaching and the Children of Israel thoguht they were doomed, Musa KNEW he would be delivered, he just didn't know HOW or WHEN.

B2s, stealth, air bursts, air power etc. Those are all tools that work on scientific principles.

I don't believe in what you assert, and I believe that the God who can split the sea can change the behavior of simple electrons which could render all that technology useless.

As far as I'm concerned, all this is just an exercise in faith to determine who really believes in God and who merely asserts that they do:

2. Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested.

3. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allâh will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allâh knows all that before putting them to test).

"You're right, if I didn't believe Islam was the truth, my whole world would be perceived differently and I would be awed beyond belief at the might arrayed against the Muslim world and would fall into worship & adoration of it"

I don't worship or adore anything, other than women. God didn't create anything finer than that, did he? I thikn worship and adoration are dangerous things indeed. I don't worship our military might, but I do recognize it's implications.

"But I believe and worship in a God which prevents me from worshipping His creation and I believe Islam is the way our Creator intended us to live. Obviously, I am FAR from perfect and sin and have my own severe shortcomings, but that doesn't prevent me from understanding (at least intellectually) that Islam is the way intended for humans."

I was just watching an interview with a Hindu writer (who's name escapes me right now) who, when asked about whether he was a Hindu or not, said yes and no. Yes he's a Hindu, but he does not allow his religious faith to cloud his rational judgements. This is a prudent approach.

Many people find solace in religion because it explains what is otherwise inexplicable. But let's face it, they are essentially hoping that the faith they cling to is the right one. Unable to acknowledge that they are hoping (which would erode the hope) they invest themselves with unconditional faith. This faith over-rides their intellects. Mostly this is a harmless exercise, but it can lead to absolutist thought that begins to see others of different faith as illegtimate. And you and I both know where that leads.

"As the forces of Pharoah were approaching and the Children of Israel thoguht they were doomed, Musa KNEW he would be delivered, he just didn't know HOW or WHEN."

Now you and I both know there is no real evidence that any of this nonsense ever happened. Have you noticed that all these Biblical and Qur'anic stories of miracles don't happen today, where all and sundry can see them? You get endless reports of unverifiable nonsense (people seeing the mother Mary's image by some "holy" site for example) and they all never amount to a hill of beans. But when Somalia is starving to death, does God suddenly turn stone to bread? Fock no. They all die. The "Allah will provide" line is a crock of shit.

"I don't believe in what you assert, and I believe that the God who can split the sea can change the behavior of simple electrons which could render all that technology useless."

Maybe God can and maybe he can't. I'm not going to argue one way or another. All I KNOW for sure, is that he won't. As Napoleon once said, God is on the side with the best artillery.

"Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: "We believe," and will not be tested."

All these fallacious arguments about "tests" are ludicrous. The test isn't fair to begin with. There are not like standards, no like education. It's a crock.

"And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allâh will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allâh knows all that before putting them to test)."

If God created people in the first place, then he doesn't need to "test" them to figure out who's who in the zoo. Does he? In fact, if God created people, and knows the future outcomes of the tests, then he is responsible for those outcomes. He set the conditions, he created the people, he knew the outcomes. He can't suddenly claim free will. Does this make sense to you? If you answer yes, it is because you have ceased to think logically and are now subscribing to blind faith. Because it is not logical.

MAD MAC,

We are constrained by time, God is not. In fact, time is a creation of God so your actions may be known to Him, because he operates independent of time, but your actions are yours alone. The whole earth, from start to finish could look like a timeline to God. You see the present, the past, & the future just as easily. Time itself is not absolute, but relative (sura ma'aarij):

"The angels and the Rûh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years,"

This is also the concept behind Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity. How could a 20th century scientific concept be alluded to in the Quran, especially considering how wild & preposterous it would have seemed 1400 years ago Question

But you're right, at the end of the day it's a question of faith. And the stronger that faith resonates within you, the more you will come to realize that it is in fact the truth.

And you're also right, humans have always tried to find a way to understand the supernatural through religion. There is more to this world than what we can see, hear, smell, & touch.

And I know for sure we didn't come from single cell pond bacterial.

Qudhac
I don't collect kids like some people collect stamps. I have one and that's enough.

When I was deployed to Africa last year my wife had an affair. That kind of put a crimp in our relationship. It's a long story and doesn't matter much at this point. Safe to say I won't be having any kids with her.
