The ancient egyptians definitaely were African, they had nothing to do with the Semites or anything asiatic for that matter. Semites generaly migrated towards egypt, first the hebrews in Ramses time (eventually he annihilated them, although there is traces of the influences in some township) and then the arab nomads with Islam as a guiding torchlight in the 700 AD.
when the first Arab nomad came to the Pharoahs Court he said 'Submit to Allah, the One and Only God in the Universe, The Creator of the Earth and Heavens and the Secrets in-between'
and pharoah responded by saying 'How dare you speak to me like that, you the bedoun and me the Pharoah, im your God'.
But still, ancient Egyptians were multiethnic ppl, and the Egyptian State embezzled as much nations as it could, calling everyone from Dinka upto falahin 'Egyptians' (nubian and berber included) and rightfully so, since mass armies were needed to protect its shores. Therefore, Egypt was a multi-ethnic state, and finally they courted the Cush.
