Last week I had a chance to see an outdated Riwaayad called "If iyo Aakhiro" "Here and Heaven" . One of the characters who goes by the name of "Horor" plays as a very poor father. His wife sells miscellaneous items on the market street. He has a daughter and she attends a boarding school on the outskirts of the city. Despite every thing else being free, there is an annual school fee required by the school by the end of every year. .
In the school, his daughter Dhudi converses with a guy from a well-to-do family. He goes by the name of Aw Tuse Aw Toosiye. The Couple are very much in support of ane another as far as their exams etc, but Aw Tuse is not aware of Dhudi's poor family.
The End of the Year nears and Mr. Horor makes the arrangement to go the school to see the Principle. He doesn't have a penny but tells his wife that he will ask for an exemption due to a family and financial problems. He also asks his wife a 30 shilling Bus fare which she grumbles “No” for not selling anything since she came to the market. Mr. Horor, starved and weak, settles to trek all the way to the school.
On his way, few kilometers from the school, he encounters Aw Tuse and asks for a direction. In their conversation, Aw Tuse sadly becomes cognizant of both his familyÂ’s poor standard of living and the fact that he is the father of Dhudi, the girl he was in love with. Aw Tuse promises him the money to feed and clothe his family. Mr. Horor, aroused by the generosity of Aw Tuse, offers his daughter for marriage. Both jump on each other with excitement. They strike this deal of family union and relationship.
Aw Tuse , also coincidently comes across Dhudi who is dejected by the condition of her family and the fear to bear the cost of the school. She convinces herself to be bold enough to tell their financial condition to her love mate. Luckily, Aw Tuse informs her of his meeting with her dad and the promise he made to sustain her family’s livelihoods. In exchange, he continued, “Your father has offered you Dhudi to be my future wife, do you have any problem with that?” Dhudi consents and becomes happy of her Dad’s decision.
However, an old business man whose name is Xaaji Ladane one day flirts with Dhudi and her Girlfriend. Xaji Ladane has a wife and children but wants to have another one as Minyaro. He has the financial means to get any girl he wants. In their flirtation and dancing, Dhudi and her friend made fun of him and called him a father and grandfather just to put him down. Xaaji Ladene, angered by these girlsÂ’ attitude, decides to purchase Dhudi off the shelf.
He goes to her Dad and gives her one Million shilling up front. The rest and the bulk of the money will be delivered after the engagement. Mr. Horor easily forgets all the favor that Aw Tuse did for him when he needed the most. In stead, he offers his daughter to be Xaaji LadaneÂ’s Future Wife. This will have a major effect on all of the characters and leads to the death of AW Tuse.
The morals of the story is that money is a recognized method by which suitors get their wives.
