Ramadan marks the month

Postby Enemy_Of_Mad_Mullah » Sat Sep 23, 2006 11:46 am

Ramadan marks the month in which the revelation of the Holy Quran began.

During this month, Muslims fast during daylight hours in order to acquire self-control, purity and spirituality.

The purpose of Ramadan is also to increase awareness of the underprivileged, and therefore is also a time of charity.

Fasting during Ramadan is the fourth of the Five Pillars of Islam and is practised by healthy adult Muslims, male and female.

At the end of Ramadan comes Eid al-Fitr, the first day of the 10th lunar month, a festive occasion of gifts, family and celebration.
