I believe that the land in which he was at was not a land that belonged to Isaaqs, i think he was with the Dhulbahante and few Isaaq tribal groups had also fallowed him becuase of his religous rehtoric.

Hey you are a smart bird. Focking hell are you doing A levels in african history or something?

Anyway no there was no Pan-African trend at the time(Sudan/Libya were a local matters) but you may have a point in the pan-Islamist trend going on now. With one proviso: Somalia was never been part of the great Isalmist movement in its three core regional areas of Arabia, Turkey and the Persia/Mogul region.

Islam in Black africa was always a petty minor, local affair with no impact outside its locality and very little influence in it by the outside.

I dont think any of those fundamentals have changed.

Cawar everyone had their own heros, my great great grandfather shot a British district officer does that make him a hero.

Cawar to each his own, the Sayid was a good poet thats all in my opinion.

Galol,

remember that it was the Sudanese Mahammad Salih that the Sayyid underwent a grueling training to become a Salihiya member. He may have been influenced there.

Galool,

First of all Sayid Maxamed's Darwiishes were based in all parts of Somalia. The only parts that had no permanent Darwiish Forts were the exclusively Isaaq lands.

Taleex and 6 smaller forts in the surrounding coutntry

Qardho, Kalyaxeed and Eyl in the Majeerteen lands

Badhan Jiidali Cirshiida and Surad in Sanaag

Orgiya, Laascaanood, Dabdheer, Shimbibis and Kiridh in Cayn and Sool region.

Qorraxey, Wardheer and Gallaadi, Docmo in Ogaadeeniya

Jarriiban, Lababaar and Beledweyne forts harrying the italians

so the mission was to free Somalia from all colonizers.

And besides, even if he was in "Isaaqland" only, well he was begged on bent knees by the Suldaan of HY Suldaan Nuur to mount a jihaad Laughing Laughing

Dont know why he didnt take the initiative himself. I guess only Daarood can undertake such a powerful leadership role.

"The allusion to "making our children their children"(the Sayid's words) evidently refers to the Roman Catholic Mission at Berbera, about which it is known that Sultan Nur sent and took false reports to the Mullah, probably with the view of ingratiating himself with him"

Samatar,

We know all about your grandfather. He can be found at golkhatumo.com

http://golkhatumo.com/igare.jpg

This is what the English Lady said about him:

HE IS THOROUGHLY LOYAL, AND HIS WILLING COOPERATION IS OF THE GREATEST ASSISTANCE TO THE EUROPEAN RULERS.

and furthermore

He is thoroughly well mannered; NEVER THOUGHT OF SITTING DOWN BEFORE I ASKED HIM TO DO SO; OR LET ME GET UP FOR A MOMENT WITHOUT STANDING ALL THE TIME, AND WAS EXCEEDINGLY QUIET IN HIS SPEECH

My great grandfather whom you know through Somali poetry came from Cadan to battle cagdheers when word got to him that many of his kinsmen were being killed by Dooro's.
Lets just say he ended up getting land in galbeed and had several wives who were non-Isaaq as a result of his battles with cagdheer.

I believe you do know who my real great grandfather is, so lets stop with this fake Ina Igarre pictures. Smile

The so-called `forts' in reality no more large mud huts that eventually served as death traps for his men were very late additions to his pettiness. He might have lasted longer if he decided top hit and run.

But dont be greedy: the glutteneous Kombo was a good poet.

Galool,

The Four forts that comprisd Taleex, Silsilad alone could accomodate 2000 men and 5000 head of livestock. It contained the bulk of the army

Falaad was the head office and living quarters of the Sayid

Daawad was for his guests

Eegi- or Dar Ilaalo was a lookout.

Galool,

Which one of those Berbera children is your grandfather? Michael Maryama Father, Kaatoli ? Ferenji? Suulaawe ?
