I believe that the land in which he was at was not a land that belonged to Isaaqs, i think he was with the Dhulbahante and few Isaaq tribal groups had also fallowed him becuase of his religous rehtoric.

Anyway no there was no Pan-African trend at the time(Sudan/Libya were a local matters) but you may have a point in the pan-Islamist trend going on now. With one proviso: Somalia was never been part of the great Isalmist movement in its three core regional areas of Arabia, Turkey and the Persia/Mogul region.

Islam in Black africa was always a petty minor, local affair with no impact outside its locality and very little influence in it by the outside.

I dont think any of those fundamentals have changed.

remember that it was the Sudanese Mahammad Salih that the Sayyid underwent a grueling training to become a Salihiya member. He may have been influenced there.

First of all Sayid Maxamed's Darwiishes were based in all parts of Somalia. The only parts that had no permanent Darwiish Forts were the exclusively Isaaq lands.

My great grandfather whom you know through Somali poetry came from Cadan to battle cagdheers when word got to him that many of his kinsmen were being killed by Dooro's.
