Why do people point out the lilttle negativity of Siad Barre everytime his name is mentioned( ) Face it people, he was the only and the real president that Somalia ever had. He united hard headed Somalis, educated them , and built the country.

This thread shows how bad qabiil has affected Somalis. How can anyone look up to a man that bombed his own citizens, a man that shot down innocent people, his own people. As long as people are blinded by qabiil and continue to support their kinsmen blindly Somalia will be divided as it always was.

The Jaziira massacre, the bombings of waqooyi towns by white South African mercenary pilots are all a product of the late president. I know some of you Mareexaans will say these events were not caused by Siad Barre. Siad Barre was responisble for these atrocities that were committed by the Somali government and military, he was the president. To say Siad Barre is not responsible is to say he was an incompetent leader which you guys will never admit he was. I am not blaming any Mareexaans for the deaths that were caused by Siad Barre because every man/woman is his/her own person; but to blindly ignore all the wrong doings of Siad Barre makes you all look like hypocrites. Siad Barre was the president, he left no legacy, he left the country in ruin and forever divided Somalia far worse than any European colonial power ever did.

All the rebel movements were sparked by hate for the Somali government. The fact that Hawiye, Isaaq and Majeerteen a Daarood subclan all disliked the Somali government says a lot about Siad rule. I understand if you have one group of people rebelling, but when you have Isaaq and Hawiye who have no tribal ties rebelling against the government something was surely wrong; even Majeerteen who are Daarood were rebelling against Siad Barre, when you have your kin rebelling against you, you have surely done something wrong.

To sum up everything, Siad Barre was an unjust leader to say other wise would be to say that he was an incompetent leader, leaders should own up to everything their government does, just as everybody is responsible for their own actions the president was responsible for the actions of his government. When your a president your held to higher pedestal, some people here are speaking as if Siad was a local clan chief.
