What Do you Know About The Floods in Somalia?

Postby muslim-man » Wed Nov 29, 2006 11:24 pm

Only in Somali media will one find any decent reporting about the extent of the floods in southern Somalia. It really goes to show what the world thinks about our plight!

After close to a month after the floods of the Shabelle river, close to 800,000 people have been affected, many of whom were subsistence farmers, now these people are still living in trees seeking protection from crocodiles & hippos said to have killed many unsuspecting civilians.

Our people are suffering (most of those affected are minority clans) & no international help is anywhere near!

It is up to every Somali regardless of clan to help these affected people. Almost all hawala companies have set up special accounts where one can transfer money to local aid agencies in Somalia to help these people.

Even $5 can make a difference, let us all do what we can!

Dude, everything doesn't have to be about politics. Atleast they were able to raise close to $500,000 from local contributions. Did you know that the owner of Al-Barakat alone put up $30,000. These wadaads maybe accused of many things, but one thing I know is when it comes to giving fii-sabiililah they do what they can!

PS: I personally spoke with Sh. Maxamad Idriis, former imaam of masjid Assunah in Atlanta, GA who is now in Mogadishu & was at a special fundraising event where they raised $200,000 in three days.

Yeah! I didn't see it either...I believe someone once said that women have a better re-collection of events & an eye for details... Laughing

Why doesn't the so-called government do anything for these people? Where the hell is the UNDP? UNICEF? WHO? WFP? They don't give a flying-fig!

muslim-man, I know that UNICEF at least is aware of the flooding, because I've been getting emails from them. I don't know how much penetration NGOs have into the area though.
