The term 'qaldaan'

Postby 1nemansquad » Wed Jan 10, 2007 9:36 pm

Is it only for Isaaq folks or all Reer-Waqooyi folk?

Lately its been thrown around here alot so i'm wondering isn't it a patois that is used by all Reer-Waqooyi folk?

And why is it that some y'll think its derogatory to be called a 'Qaldaan'? As well as those of who think its a diss to call someone 'Qaldaan' or to be one?

I never been to anywhere near Waqooyi, straight from Banadir and you know what i think its hella kewl to be 'Qaldaan' than Xamarawi anyday seriously; i already lost 40% of my Banaidr dialect, its gone and what's left of it is passing out of sight real quick and i couldn't be happier man ..

Having said that, i wouldn't want to be a hardcore 'Qaldaan' though; i think that is mentally deranged as well; and when i say hardcore 'Qaldaan' i mean those oo faraha indha kaa galiynaayo while they are talking to you ...

Marka what's all this talk about Qaldaan this and that?

To me it has two meanings

Qaldaan as in geography ( Warsans, Dhulos, Issaq, Gedabursi etc)

and

Qaldaan as in derogatory (wrong ones ) for only Issaqs

1oneman,

Qaldaan is the term used by the Southern Somalis for the Nothern Somalis when they(Notherners) first come to the South specially Mog. We are a little bit more louder than the Southerners...

That term had no tribal affiliation whatsoever, qaldaans were anyone who said "Dee" And they could be Isaaq, Hawiya (Fiqsihini), Sheekhaal, Hartiga, Ciisa, Gadabuursi etc

But now maadaama dadkii buufis ku wada dhacay... Waxaa laga dhigaa sidii iyadoo dad gaar ah loo dan leeyahay... Laakiin walaahay it never had qabiil affiliation... Just Qaldaan, Walaweyn etc...
