Somaliland Needs To Be Saved From Its Own President
Ahmed Saeed — Ottawa - Canada — 11 February, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Somaliland needs to be saved from its own president and the imminent danger
from the neighboring countries.

The president who failed Republic of Somaliland could have been in the Guinness book of world records if he acted upon how he was elected democratically. Instead he chose to go in to the worst books of his nation. The president is a bully and harasses his people; some have already resigned as a result and those who chose to stay are living in constant fear of having their jobs groundlessly terminated.

All the blames and concerns raised by Somaliland citizens about their president's rule are falling on to deaf ears? Why would a president of a state become so deeply offended over the issues of a free press ( Hatuf )? The groundless detention of Journalists is a message from the president's palace to the public.

a) Riyaale is testing the water and if he gets away with it only God knows what is next.
b) In my humble opinion he is breaking new grounds for certain things which he does not want to share with any one.

This may sound weird to some people but it does not need a rocket scientist or nothing is philosophical of his routine deception, which at this juncture to my utmost surprise, he is enjoying an absolute power. With that kind of tyrannical rule, he may wake up one day, and say I want to kill.

c) Another scenario could be he may want to cleverly hijack Somaliland and have done secret deals with the south. More so he disrespects clans, sultans and the elite of the country. Any sane mind will understand his deeds are affecting the country and the morale of its citizens. However, the situation Somaliland is in now is different than confining Journalists in cells, stealing lots of land, mismanagement of public funds and the like.

Independence of the state of Somaliland is at stake. Rescue of Somaliland from the ugly situation that can jeopardize the modernity of the state is an immediate requirement as long as there is an imminent threat from the neighboring countries. A common problem for the African rulers is corruption and that is not a major concern at this point in time. Interestingly the lessons Riyale learnt from his instructors during the past regime are imprinted in his mind and he can not resist implementing them. Part of the blame goes to his advisers, who often tell him, during Egal era those suggestions/recommendations and requests was unheard of. The only thing they constantly remind him is why he is being treated differently. That causes him to become paranoid of too many issues to an extent he never lends an ear to no body when he decides to prove that he is the ultimate power of today, then often VITO is the norm.

The nation is not expecting anything good to come out from the president’s side, therefore the parliament plus the public should take the law in to their hands and remove him from power and put a nationalist who cares about the country/nation as we are running out of time, otherwise will experience an exodus from North to South soon, since the most strongest nation, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and all the Arab countries are working against us. Strong army, playing politics right and a great deal of involvement from the somalilanders in diaspora are examples of how to salvage country from the current situation. Somalilanders should be realistic, stop hallucinating and visualizing an independence which is not there. The public are kept in the dark, knowing not what Riyale holds for them.

As far I am concerned he holds faqash style of governing for the people, and he him self is uncertain what is on people’s minds. Further more, since he can not take good management decisions and the slightest rumors shakes up his entire house hold and worst of all his solution is to send innocent people to Mandeera Jail and lacks vision for the country, then it is advisable that he steps down and give way to any one who can take the lead in these miserable days ahead.

I believe the president has one more year to go, in the eyes of the public he seems he does not care about the danger the country will face soon, hence, if he has any respect for the people who elected him or maintains any integrity he should abdicate the throne before the public bounces on him and internal conflict arises within the country.
