ok in the spirit of celebrating occassions. let us toss few blah blahs at occassions we actually give a damn about instead of those gaalo dhaqan bs. so the other day, my friend who recently got married invited me to her shaashsaar. for those of u who don't know this, its a celebration that happens 7 days after the wedding, practiced mostly by reer koonfurs. I'm mostly familar with xeedho(this is for the northerners SomaliLanders etc.). the shaashsaar i went to was pretty cool, it was full of young people, contrary to most of the xeedho i've been to as it was moslty frequented by my auntie and dumar of her age. anyways. As a reer waqooyi girl, i must admit that i like shaashsaar better..in fact i'd prefer one personally but my hard core reer waqooyi mom and aunties would kill me. Laughing

oh and btw: if anyone can clue me in on the origins of shaashsaar, pleez do.
Since my hooyo is reer woqooyi, she wants me to have Xeedho. But I want shaashsaar, maybe a mix of both.

Zulikha,

I've been to both, shaashsaar was fun, but I felt like an alien to be honost, but I like the Gaaf/xeedho more.. Its more fun when them judges make the guys act like idiots and ask them all these hard core Somali questions..after that takes place..and they inhale that nasty meat thats soaked in suubag which is a heartattach in a plate, you get your groove on..u know how we celebrate in T.dot.. after midnight ayaba sheekado isku dhacda..lol

I have been to more shaash saars than Xeero, in fact I have only been to Xeero twice. I have to say I actually kinda enjoyed myself at Xeero unlike Shaash saars which are the most boring affairs if you ask me, the highlight is the buraanbur and I usually don't get it. However, looking at the idea behind it I think I prefer the Shaash saar where basically it celebrates your married status and sorta welcomes you to the wives club...I don't like the idea behind Xeero.

I've never been to Xeedho/Gaaf, but it sounds like fun. Did I understand Gogarad that there's some kind of quiz element? Sounds like my kinda party Laughing

Xeedho= The girl meaning the "xeedho", being undressed by the men from the grooms side.
Shaashsaar= A dance off and qabiil praising between fat old women from both side.

I personally think they are both fun for the first hour.

They'll ask you things like, what do you call a female Chihuahua or what is the name of the inner thigh of a calf. If you don't know the answers, than the judges will ask you to sing a horny love song for the couple. Very Happy
