Xeedho Vs Shaashsaar

My family is 'Reer Gaalkacyood' who grew up in Muqdisho, and now live in the States, and ever since i can remember i always heard of "Shaashsaar", specially seeing my sisters, cousons, mom, and aunties getting ready to do their thing at the 'shaashsaar'

they once had this 'Shaashsaar' at my home in minneapolis ( we have a huge seating room area, about 40 people could sit compfortably walaahi)....and ofcourse it was upstairs, and i was sitting downstairs watching tv; anyways all the Halwa, food, beverages, were all upstairs, so i decided to go upthere and get me some, and that is when i saw the 'Bride' in the middle of the room, and a bunch of ladies all around her like a circle, singing(buraanbur) or something, and every now and then a lady would get up and put a 'shaash' over the bride, etc, etc....very colorful, weird, and exotic!
Both the bride and the groom were Leelkase, so the Shaashsaar is definatley not strict to one group of people,

this is practiced by alot of Somalis, regardless of Qabiil or region,
i think the fact that almost 2 million Somalis lived together in Muqdisho also helped popularize this event as well, making it 'a somali tradition'.

as for 'Xeedho', is it the occasion where the Grooms Best Men try to untie a bunch of "dhiilo" or "haamo" and if they don't untie it, they are made to drink a glass of concentrated Salt Water,

I come from a strict al-itahad family so this "Shaashsaar" and ''Xeedho'' is as foreign to me as mexican chupacapra, it's ground for beheading if I decide embrace this rituals.

Yes. They usually have about 3-5 elderly men who are consider the judges, and there is a girl who is holding a stick who is going to go around where the guys are sitting and she will pick one, he has to then go to the bride/groom shake their hands and try to undress the frigging thing (I so hate the idea behind this) if the guy makes a wrong move the girl is keep hitting him with the stick, after few mistakes he goes to the judges where they ask him all kind of questions and if he can't answer them, they will tell him to do something.. Like sing a song, make a certain noise or something. Its pretty fun, try going to one...

They don't do shaashsaar in the west like they used to in xamar. wallaahi some women are mean, they even take back their shaash after the ceremony how reer baadiyo can they get!

I was planing on having mine done in xamar with perfect buraanbur and very traditionally but some warlords called TFG ruined it all for me... nacalaakutaal....

I'll be damned if I have the shaashsaar on the same day as the wedding as I've seen around here.

I knew I'd be having a xeedho, but my mom's cousins my aunts are like...Maya,maya,maya gabadha she has to have shaashaar too ..(my mom didn't care either, she didn't even have one)...islaamaha Mijerteen waa dhibaato socota LOL.. You know what I never thought of this but I bet 95% of his family doesn't know what the hell a shaashsaar is. Man, I can't wait to see the look's on their faces when they see it, it's going to be hillarious come to think of it..Lololol

I'm just worried about them messing up my hair. The other thing I'm not looking forward to is xino. I'm not really into it. One of my aunts told me to put on xino for the reception as well....I just laughed at her....LOL...who the hell would wear a white dress and xino?


Axlaan, when you get married your dress can't be white, you'll have to wear like a brown almost black..ileen waanu is naqaanaaye...
And before you even say anything mine isn't white, it will be ivory. LOL

Since we're on this topic, what do you guys think about women who change more then once? Like they'll have on an outfit and then they'll , in the middle of the party, go and change.

No babes it's for both female's and males, but only men participate in the the actual game part. The girl's father doesn't attend, neither does her mother. It's like the unveiling of the girl. I'll leave you to use your imagination as to what that means.

u gonna have both? ala adiga dhib jecelidaa. good luck with dee. oh and shaashsaar, u'd definitely need xini. but for the wedding maybe u shouldn't. its just a clash of cultures when u wear a vera wang and your hands have more detaits than the dress. so I personally wouldn't opt for such. i really love xini or qadaad a lot but since i'll be rockin' my Monique Lhuillier dress, i ain't messin' with it.

It's not my choice walaahi to be honest too much party's. I think two should be enough but I guess since Im the oldest of all my mom's sibblings and first to get married it's a big deal to them.
I would have liked just a small meher, the reception, and a small xeedho.

They put xalwad in some, sweets in others, duruuc and uunsi in some, dahab too. So I guess the more xeedho's you have = the more friends you have and the more people like you and your parents..Lol

its a year and 3 months away i keep post-poning it. everytime we have a fight, i call off the wedding. but anyway, hopefully things will go according to plan inshallah.

u need 4 more dress aa? what for? u having prelude parties prior to the wedding miyaa? goodness, much luck with that. I just had one family-only(his and mine) party when we first announced our engagement..and i didn't even show up to the damn thing. lol.
