"You must live in cloud cuckoo land if you have any hope that racial profiling wont be used by the police (who are obviously almost all white) to target black/brown people, and its legality will only hide this type of behaviour...its difficult enough to challenge the police when you havent done anything wrong. The law is already on their side and there are so many other avenues to take in combatting crime."
Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. The key is recruiting quality minority officers, training ALL OF YOUR POLICE TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS - this means a basic training where all of their previous biases must be eliminated (and it's doable - we do it in the Army now, where racism has been tackled head on with much success), and a reminder of what the purpose of the police is - which is to protect and to serve the community. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
"In Britain, the type of people who commit certain crimes will already fit into some profile, irrespective of their skin colour. You cant ignore sociological reasons, the type pf black people who are gang bangers do not usually have bright futures and cosy homes (I dont feel sorry for them, I just understand that it is easy to get into this situation if its ever been an option in your fringe part of society before) they generally have the exact same profile as they white gang bangers they live next to, same accents, clothes, background, class....."
Did I say "ignore"?? Nope, I did not. There are sociological reasons, but from a policiing standpoint, that's irrelevent EXCEPT that they need to understand the profile, which goes beyond race. Race if a factor, not the ONLY factor. This is like the profiling of hijackers and terrorists by airlines. Don't waste much time on non-Muslims. They get a routine screening. But if a Muslim is coming through, your radar should be on. Why? Because right now the only people blowing up airliners and hijacking them are Muslims. Why waste time searching granny?

No, there seems to be a correlation, at least in Western society, between race and pedophelia and race and mass murder. Obviously it is not cast iron, but there is a correlation. When profilers examine a crime or a string of crimes better yet, they can often determine with a fairly high degree of certainty the approximate age and race of the perpetrator, and sometimes other details too.
