Hailey, that wouldnt make any sense, Allah says that he will judge us equally, and that he is a fair judge....so how can someone equal, and someone UNequal be judged the same? By that, I mean, if the weight of each special responsibilty were different, how can we be judged the same? There is a flaw in the understanding of that ayah/hadith if someone where to believe that.
With regards to the beating thing, first of all, its haram to BEAT your wife, she is not a donkey or a horse, she is a human being and the Prophet (pbuh) has never once hit his wives nor has he ever condoned BEATING a woman your'e married to.
"Among the Muslims, the most perfect as regards his faith is the one whose character is most excellent, and the best among you are those who treat their wives well." (Narrated by Tirmidhi.)
Allah is merciful so why would a being, stronger than the other being, be allowed to beat her with permission from Allah?? There are steps one has to take first...like TALKING then not lying together...and then you can hit her lightly...but there are so many rules governing this (like; not on the face, you cant scar her or damage anything) that I dont think it would be worth anything. I mean if my husband tapped me with a miswak on the bottom of my feet, would he be beating me? No. Actually beating me wouldnt help me respect him in anyway beyond that point though.
Allah said:
Surah 30, verse 21:
"And among His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves that you may live [dwell] in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between you; verily, in that are signs for people who reflect"
How is that (love and mercy) even remotely possible if he beats me?
Just try to apply your God given logic to what the Quran says....Allah tells us his attributes for a reason, so that we can use that logic to see if we have undertood a verse correctly.
