NIGERIA: PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT HELD January 2, 2006

Kizza Hajarah

(SomaliNet) Nigerian officials are questioning a leading member of former dictator Sani Abacha's military government.

Mohamed Buba Marwa, former Lagos governor and presidential aspirant, 2007, has been in custody for the past week.

It is alleged that he has knowledge about the embezzlement of over $2bn during the time he served in Abacha’s government. During this time, he was Nigeria’s military ambassador in Washington.

This is the first step taken towards recovering money during Abacha’s reign. However, some has been found in foreign banks.
