NIGERIA: NO GAY MARRIAGES January 19, 2006

Kizza Harajah

(SomaliNet) Nigerian government is planning to pass a law banning same sex marriages. Even religious leaders who officiate at such functions will serve five years in prison. Nigeria's Anglican bishops are in support of the law.

This was revealed by the Nigerian government Information Minister Frank Nweke to the BBC. The AFP news agency further reports that the law would ban the gays from having any recognition or rights.

With this, Archbishop Peter Akinola will have his prayers answered. He has always been outspoken against the practise.

The North that follows the islamic law had already banned the practise. Culprits would be stonned to death, thus following the quranic teachings.
