NIGERIA: NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AND KIDNAPPERS January 19, 2006

Kizza Harajah

(SomaliNet) Nigerian officials are holding talks with the kidnappers of four foreign oil workers. This was revealed by the Information Minister on Thursday. The four men include an American, a Bulgarian, a Briton and a Honduran who worked with giant Shell. They have been in captivity from January 11.

Obasanjo has opted for negotiatiations and not a violent response."We have no doubt in our minds that this is going to come to an end very very quickly.

In a few days the team should revert to the president with a status report and we'll hopefully see these people's release,"the minister said. However, the minister has kept secret who the Nigerian government is negotiating with.
