ZIMBABWE: OPPOSITION LEADER URGES AFRICAN LEADERS TO END CREATION OF NEW GOV’T November 10, 2008

(SomaliNet) Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has asked African leaders to set an ultimatum to end an impasse in the formation of a new government.

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) chief Tsvangirai added that his MDC party could only join a coalition if MDC members are appointed to important ministerial posts. President Robert Mugabe decision to give all important posts to members of his ZANU-PF party has stalled the coalition talks.

The continuing crisis in Zimbabwe is being discussed at regional summit in Johannesburg in South Africa. At the summit, President Mugabe said he was optimistic about reaching an accord with the opposition.

However, observers are pessimistic as previous meetings of the Southern Africa Development Community failed to lead to concrete results. And many government leaders have sent junior officials to the meeting as their representatives.-RNW
