RWANDANS AND AMERICANS TO FIGHT HIV/AIDS JOINTLY IN SCHOOLS February 5, 2006

(SomaliNet) As part of its campaign strategy to fight HIV/Aids, Rwandans and Americans in Partnership to Control Aids (RAPSIDA), has launched a new campaign targeting schools. Reports New times.
The campaign branded (Badge of Hope), “Ikimenyetso Kibyiringiro “ is part of RAPSIDA's 2006 school programme to fight against HIV/Aids.
RAPSIDA will have a volunteer at each school wearing a special beaded badge for one week. The students will wear the badge for the entire school year, passing it from one volunteer to another on weekly basis. The volunteers wearing the badge will be asked to perform specific responsibilities and will talk to people about HIV/Aids throughout the week. They will also help administer peer education activities with the anti-Aids clubs, the release says.
As a reward for their efforts, volunteers will be invited to a special meal prepared by local associations of People Living with HIV/Aids during anti-Aids theatre performances. As part of the programme, RAPSIDA engage in HIV/Aids prevention drives in six secondary schools through innovative theatre activities, peer education and outreach activities.
RAPSIDA's programme is to be supported by a German health organization ActionMedeor and Ward Brook Center, USA.
The launch took place at Kabuga High School, ASPESKA Karenge, Alliance High School and APAGIE Musha, some of the schools to benefit from the anti-Aids activities.
