BURUNDI: 5 DIE IN REBEL ATTACK ON BAR February 5, 2006

(SomaliNet) At least killing four people were killed and one died in a gun fire with soldiers when Burundi rebels attacked a bar in a suburb of the capital Bujumbura. Reports Reuters Sunday.
This comes just two days after Government troops killed nine FNL rebels in a military operation in Kibira forest, north west of Burundi.
Burundi’s Army spokesman Major Adolphe Manirakiza said the rebels apparently came to rob money in that pub. The four victims in the bar -- including a priest -- died when the rebels sprayed gunfire into their midst, Manirakiza revealed, Nearby soldiers rushed to the scene and killed one FNL assailant, he said.
Burundi is struggling to emerge from years of civil war that have pitted rebels from the Hutu majority against a Tutsi ruling elite and killed 300,000 people since 1993. Most
Burundians believe they are on the path to peace after former rebel Pierre Nkurunziza was sworn in as president in August. But clashes continue between the army and the FNL, which operates from the hills oustide the capital Bujumbura.
The Forces for National Liberation (FNL) is the only remaining rebel group in Burundi. The rebels are led by Hutu hardliners who have refused to join peace talks despite appeals from the international community.
