NIGERIA: BIRD FLU DETECTED February 8, 2006

(SomaliNet) A commercial poultry farm in Nigeria has witnessed the continent's first bird flu outbreak on the continent. This is stated in the World Organization for Animal Health's Wednesday report.

So far, only birds have been attacked by the disease in Nigeria. A farm in Jaji in Northern Ngeria has been the victim, as stated in a Jan 16th samples.

"We are dealing with a new continent," said Alex Thiermann, an expert for the World Organization for Animal Health to the AFP.
