ZIMBABWE: 173 CHILDREN JAILED February 14, 2006

(SomaliNet) Zimbabwean women with babies on their backs spent Monday night in prison. These were among almost Zimbabweans jailed for protesting against the country's poor economic situation.

The arrested belonged to Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) and were in Zimbabwe's southern city,Bulawayo.

Among the charged were 174 women and seven men. According to the group lawyer, all the Zimbabwean ladies demanded for were food and love."They are mostly housewives, the people who have to cook the food that is now in short supply. They are saying we need love, we need food," the lawyer said during an interview with Reuters.

This is not the first riot of it's kind. This is the third time WOZA has made the same move on valentines day.

Zimbabwe is affected by lack of food, unemployment and inflation.
