GHANA: PAYS TRIBUTE TO HEROES February 28, 2006

(SomaliNet) Ghana held a function in honour of Sergent Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Private Odartey who were killed on February 28, 1948. They met their death at the Christianborg Croossroads, Ghana on their way o the then British Governor, Sir Gerald Creasy.
A wreath was laid on their graves. This was done by Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, Ghana's Defence Minister for the people and government of Ghana. whilegovernment and Lt-Gen J.B. Danquah, Defence Staff Chief laid one for the security section.
Major F. D. Arthur commanded the above 100 men who paraded at the fuction.
The victims were among other ex servicemen who were demanding for their war time benefits having fought for Britain during the second world war. They were killed by an army led by British Superintendent then, Mr Imray after defying his orders to disperse.
The violence that followed their death forced the British to give Ghana its indepedence. This is why they will always be remembered.
