GHANA: OVER 60% OF HEALTH WORKERS TO WORK ABROAD March 9, 2006

(SomaliNet) Ghana is among six African countries which is to suffer the effects of brain drain after 62% of health workers travel abroad.
Between 1993 and 2002, Ghansa lost 67% of medical doctors and 25% of professional nurses to the same fate. 14% of Ghans's pharmacists also travelled abroad.
According to Dr. Kofi Ahmed, Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health, there is need to invest more in the country's health sector. He said that local health workers do not serve their country because of the poor socio-political situation in the country.
