LIBERIA: "WHERE ARE THE POLITICAL PARTIES' OFFICES?" ASK HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISTS March 10, 2006
Kizza Harajah
(SomaliNet) The Liberia Democracy Watch (LDW), a human rights group questions the whereabouts of offices belonging to different political parties in Liberia after the elections.
George Wah Williams, LDW's Executive Director summed up the number of political parties that were active prior to the elections in Liberia to twenty. However, all their offices are currently closed.
He further calls for an investigation into the motives of these parties which he terms as "political fraud" by Liberia's National Elections Committee (NEC). It is not good for Liberia to have these parties and other independent candidates disappear after elections."Party stalwarts appointed are urged to work in government as if their respective parties were in power," added Mr. Williams.
Williams presented the above views on behalf of other members of Liberia's human rights activists group while in a meeting with journalists.
